Gotta hate old car brakes!
I finally pulled the drums off the 70 SS to see what was causing the rear brakes to lock up so well and sure enough, tons of brake dust and all held together nicely with brake fluid(this is on the passenger side that was locking up). So I got a new wheel cylinder, cleaned everything up and put it back together only to have it still lock up under hard braking. So I grab some new brake shoes and another wheel cylinder and sure enough, the driver's side is in even worse condition. I just got done cleaning that side up but I'm too tired to finish the reassembly. They appear to be the original Delco Moraine wheel cylinders that started leaking 15-20 years ago! Hopefully it will be back together and stopping much better tomorrow.

Brakes 101 - always do brakes in pairs.
Did you at least put an $8 combi-kit in too?

I NEVER EVER EVER in a million years will do brakes per side, especialy hydraulic parts such as calipers or wheel cylinders.
And yes, the 8 dollar hardware might seem trivial, but its 8 bucks and worth it.
Make sure you have the drums resurfaced too btw...

Welp, new wheel cylinders, new brake shoes and new spring kit on each side. I need to take a look at the front brakes next but it felt a lot better today and no grabbing or locking up.

Just middle of the road Napa brake shoes. I'm not too concered with keeping the 70 completely bone stock at the moment. One of the wheel cylinders appeared to be an original Delco Moraine piece, I wonder if there are date codes on them?

Did you get the drums machined or just scuffed them up?
