so where can I race??
Just wondering where I can race. I'm starting to think I'll never race again for a few reasons.
1) stupid f-ing rules about needing a fire jacket for nitrous. LAME
2) e-town having noise regulations and people telling me the LM doesn't meet their muffler rule or some more bullcrap.
3) I live in N. Jersey and every track I know of is probably 1 hour or more a.k.a. atco from where I live.
Any suggestions, and don't bother saying change your exhaust, buy a fire jacket or quit whinning.
Thanks.

if you have stock manifolds or a catted ypipe, your loudmouth should pass........the people having problems are the longtube, offroad y and loudmouth guys.
sorry to break your rule, but i will tell you to buy a fire jacket, summit has ones that will pass tech for your needs for as low as 49.99
or just leave the bottle turned off and you wont need the fire jacket

Island is fine.
E-town - borrow my fire jacket. You have stock manifolds and cats so you will be fine with the decibal test.
Atco is far.
You have a d/s safety loop right?
How is the helmet? Snell rating?

I was at island about a month ago (first time) and their tech is no joke. Nor should it be. I am just used to going to Atco where they are more "relaxed". While the tech crew at island is more strict, they were very professional about it and I saw them making recommendations to guys on fixes and such. The were asking whose axles, clutch, bell housing etc. on the faster cars....and writing it down on your tech sheet.
I'd guess that if you pass there, you are good to go anywhere at least from a safety perspective.
They didn't ask me boo.....or really check for anything, but then again i am pretty much stock.

atco has joke tech. if you wanna run and not worry about all that being safe crap, just roll down there on a street night. as long as the car pulls in under it's own power they will let you run.

from what I know about nitrous it is not a flammable gas, so why would that be the reason for causing fires? you can wire up your radio improperly and get an electrical fire, should people with altered radio systems be required to wear a fire jacket too.
Here's another example, 2007 z06 vette runs the quarter mile stock needs nothing. a 1980 honda accord with a 50 shot of nitrous runs an 18 second quarter and he needs a jacket. Seems kinda lame to me.
Thanks to all those that posted good info.

nitrous = oxygen, oxygen = important part of fire, people who are too dumb to tighten a line properly are also commonly found to be too dumb to wire things properly.
it is a pretty simple formula really, nearly every part of a car is flammable(fuel), nitrous provides plenty of air to allow a low temp flame to propagate through saturation, all you need is a small static spark and you are a weenie just a roastin'
BTW, there are a million stories of stock Z06's getting bounced for going too fast without safety equipment.
the simple truth of it is is this, if you don't want to play safe at high speeds your choices are to be jsut another highway fatality resulting from excessive speeds or you can go to a track that isn't known for caring about how safe you are until it is too late to help you.

while nitrous may not be flammable, many people use wet systems, and i think we all agree the fuel in the nozzle is flammable

actually, the stock z06s shouldnt be getting bounced if they're really stock. According to the rulebook, any car that is factory stock, regardless of what it runs, doesn't need the required equipment (roll bar, ds loop, etc). The problem with the honda - z06 comparison is that the z06 is meant to be as fast as it is and it passes highway safety standards whereas the 18 second honda hopped up on nitrous is not.

when I got booted from Etown last time, it was explained to me that if a car was totally stock then it can run whatever it runs. However, once the car is modified then it goes into the NHRA rules. I'd still sign a waiver if I got a kill myself by not having a roll bar. I don't run any ridiculous times so I don't see it as being a huge deal.

about those NHRA rules; what about those roll cages they sell w/ the removable back cross-bar (that goes beind the seats)? That states that it ISN'T NHRA legal. But, if your like me (6'4), you need to have your tilted back for everyday driving, so the removable bar is what i'd prob go with.
my point it, will they give u a hard time with that? I mean it is still a cage, it just has an option of removing the bar.
