86-93 tuning at JS Performance!!

We have finally gotten our program together to tune 86-93 GM cars up and running.

The prices are as follows:

Bolt on cars - $160

N/A with internal modifications - $260 (may require dyno time)

Forced induction - $310 (usually requires dyno time)

The price includes removal and installation of the computer and chip from stock location.

*Dyno time extra

*Minimum requirements*

Every vehicle must be in good mechanical condition and may not have any problems with large amounts of smoke, external leaks, or wiring.

Every vehicle will undergo a visual inspection to confirm its condition.

Must have at least a 180* thermostat which can be installed here for an extra fee.

To schedule your appointment PM or E-Mail me @ Josh@JSSpeedandcustom.com

Still being a newbie to this whole car thing, I don't understand why there's a reason for a new thermostat. What are the stock thermostats for a late 3rd gen TA?

Does the tuning include TBI cars?

Stock is 195* and why, usually the timing is increased in certian areas. Like at WOT. With more timing, the car is more prone to detionation and preignition..

Detonation is the spontaneous combustion of the end-gas (remaining fuel/air mixture) in the chamber. It always occurs after normal combustion is initiated by the spark plug. The initial combustion at the spark plug is followed by a normal combustion burn. For some reason, likely heat and pressure, the end gas in the chamber spontaneously combusts. The key point here is that detonation occurs after you have initiated the normal combustion with the spark plug.

Pre-ignition is defined as the ignition of the mixture prior to the spark plug firing. Anytime something causes the mixture in the chamber to ignite prior to the spark plug event it is classified as pre-ignition. The two are completely different and abnormal phenomenon.

Reason for running a lower t-stat is to keep the heads, block, incoming air/fuel mix cooler to thwart off the effects of detionation/pre-ign. Which allows for more timing to be added. Why add more timing? Well it is used to fire the a/f mix at the right time to allow the pistion to be pushed back down into the cylender for optium power output. If you have the stuff mention above happening from hot spots on the head, block or wherever, it negates the added benefits of more timing.

Cliff notes..

Cooler t-stat allows the car to be more eifficent in making power!

AS for TBI cars, still haven't really messed with them. You have to do a few computer mods (like solidering new parts into the computer) that we haven't explored yet. When we get our hands on a few test computers (sometime soon we hope!) we'll start doing them.

If you are referring to a standard carb, and not a CC - Q-Jet, then I'm sure Josh could take care of you.

CC-Q-Jet's nope. There isn't a hack out there as far as I know that allows us to do so. But the best chip out there for is one for the ZZ4 engine if you can find it. If I remember right, you used to be able to order one from GM for a few bucks.

Justin, for now MAF/SD TPI cars and the 92-93 SD LT1 cars. We have to get a few more things before moving on to the newer stuff.

I do know prolly by late Jan, we'll have stuff to do all of the LSx cars and stuff like that.

As far as carbed cars go, I have always tuned them the tpi tuning is just a new addition. With the carbs it is more mechanical modifications than anything electronic since the computer has little to do with wot performance.

I can go over the carb and timing for you just to make sure you are in the ballpark but the track is going to be your best prooving ground.

These are our introductory prices. Right now we are trying to get the word out and tune as many as possible over the winter.

Come spring time the pricing will go up a bit.

What did you do differently from the engine swap than what was in there before? (like new trans, went from EFI to carb?)
