It's a SAD story. I was lucky to watch a couple of those IROC races at Daytona, when "The Man" won that race in a FIREBIRD T/A. The really cool part was that you could easily recognize the car as a STOCK LOOKING Trans Am! Those cars were more fun to watch because they handled soooo much better than the Cup Cars. When they went by, it sounded like a Formula 1 car, AWESOME exhaust sound . They were actually DETUNED to run at 190 mph. Love to have one of those 'Birds in my garage!

That blows...IROC was a true test of drivers?! Everyone had the same car. It was awesome!!! Where else could you see Steve Kinser and Dale SR. in the same place?
This is a sad day in motorsports.
Why did IROC end?

In the article it says they lost there title sponser. They searched for a new one and talked to about 100 companies and after a year of searching they decided to call it quits.

I could'nt believe it when I first heard. What a shame. IROC was one of the reasons I bought my 88-Z. Would have loved to get a late eighty's model racer. That was always one of the best series out there. Having drivers from many different series racing in the same cars was a great concept. Always looked forward to it when it was on. Just wished it was more then just a 4 race season. Maybe in the future it will make a come back. If they can get a big sponser for it maybe it will start up again. The new Camaro would be perfect to relaunch the series. It was most popular during the camaro era. Even Jay Signore hinted at it coming back in the future. Lets hope its just a short break like the 3 year break from 80 to 83.

what a total facking waste of time. i missed out a days pay, used gas and tolls for nothing. these people at the auction were out of there facking minds, paying what they did for old, used tools and equipment. there were NO deals there at all. EVERYTHING sold for absolute TOP dollar. people bought beat up old jacks.....not the aluminum race jacks...just regular jacks....for $150. you could get brand new for less. 90% of everything sold was over $175. i was looking at a snap-on cordless impact gun, with charger and spare battery. both of them sold for around 330. you could get a brand new one with warrenty for 360ish. you could go to a catalog, pay top dollar, with tax and shipping, and still get things for less then what people paid here for used tools. the only people who made out today were the owners of IROC.
some moron paid $1000 for a welding work bench. nothing special....just a metal bench, not even 4X8. might be all of $100 of steel, mig welded together. and this douche paid a grand for it, PLUS 10% buyers fee......so $1100 for something he could have made for $100. 300+ for a metal bench, with wood top? 700 for some inline blowers and hose?? ugh......

apparently those people are just born into rich families, because anyone who works for their money would never pay what they did. many guys around me commented on the same

I was thinking the same thing and would have been looking for the same kind of stuff, racing jack, maybe a welder on the cheap etc....but now I am breathing easier....
Glad I didn't waste my time....sorry others may have though

yup it was a waste of time. All the tools went for top dollar and alot went for more than you could by in the store for new. I was hoping to pick up a few items but as soon as I got a chance to bid the price was way over what I would of spent. Im kinda glad I didnt get anything cause i get to put my cash back in the bank.

so who were you? whered you sit? i should have asked what you look like. i had a #8 hat, moustache, black leather jacket, tall. sat by the newman race car for the morning, then walked around in the afternoon.
i was contemplating on going today. some very nice memorabilia, some good race tools, stuff i could use for autox. fire suits with big E's name on it, tons of autographed helmets, framed pictures, everything. but then i know nothing there will go for less then $300, so whats the point.
