Traffic light camera question

In NJ do the traffic light cameras send you a ticket if you go through a red light? If so is it 100% that you do get one? or are some of the cameras there just for the use of traffic accidents.

Everyone is always so afraid of these cameras and for what...

I have worked for a traffic signal company for the last 6 months, and we install those cameras. 90% of the ones you see are simply to detect movement of traffic, like "loops" used to do. they are for turning lanes and side streets mostly, and 90% of them are black and white, and dont record anyway.

I would be more afraid of the new sensors we installed on 287 for the DOT that pick up your EZPasses to "count cars" or so they say

So wait, theres cameras on 287 that JUST detect EZpasses to "Count cars"? Theres no tolls (Well atleast from 440 to exit 41) so...

Man Im glad I never got an EZpass.

Yes. If you pass under any overpasses, look up. Especially around where 287/78/202 and 206 all meet together

I found out about them because there was something making thier circuit trip and we had to make sure those sensors would never lose power again.

So there is no guarente that the camera was in full working condition or that it is a red light camera or that its a camera to scare you or that its a camera just to count cars etc etc

See that link for my post in another thread about these. It explains that municipalities will have to apply to the state to be allowed to use cameras at each specific intersection that they feel has too many red-light incidents. They can't just get blanket coverage and install ticket cameras at every intersection.

Does anyone have a clue as to how much money these cameras truely cost?

Heres a prime example- you would think that the city of Newark, at the intersection of Market and Broad street, directly behind the Prudential center would have installed these red light cameras if they were going to install anything. They went with the detection cameras because traffic loops (those diamonds cut into the road at intersections that sense your car is there through electromagnetic fields) are being phased out.

I'm not saying that in your case specifically it was 100% definitly not a red light camera or that it was, but im saying it is unlikely.

Also, just to add one more thing-

Anyone who travels route 46west from rockaway to netcong or the opposite of said direction, fear not. those cameras im installing this week on the night shift are only to detect movement of traffic, not red light cameras

it just detects the presence of something metal over it.

they also use these anywhere that UL 325 compliance is required for traffic gates. they are there to make sure the gates don't close when there is a vehicle in front of them.

those "diamond loops" in NC suck on the outer banks. They dont like to pick up motorcycles. we sat at a light for like 10 min once while cars lined up behind us. i finally had to wave the car behind me to move forward to activate it.

Hmm that makes wonder about rt1. They are doing all that constrution on RT1 in the Edison And Woodbridge area and I have seen some cameras pop up on the traffic lights in that area. Especialy at the intersection of Ford ave and rt 1 but the cameras only face Ford ave and not Rt 1.

I heard on the radio the other day that the first municipalty to get the red light cams is Brick. If you get a ticket from one, there's a hefty fine, but no points. Regardless, it's all about the fundraising.

my knee-jerk reaction is that this is all about money collected for the municipalities. there are studies on both sides saying they don't reduce red-lighters or accidents at intersections as those designated as red-light-runners. i dout it will do anything to decrease accidents and this is only a ploy by the municipalities participating in the trial run.

They sell magnets to mount under your bike to help set them off. My boss's Harley has trouble setting them off sometimes, so he got one and hasn't had a problem since.

i'm interested to know why they would care to count cars on 287. that doesn't make sense.
