car won't start help

Okay so on friday night the car wouldn't start and would make the grinding noise (as if the car was already on and I turned the key). Saturday I put a new starter in and it makes the same noise. Sunday I have the battery tested and charged and it then made a whining sound. Also worth noting is that the teeth on the the flexplate/flywheel on my automatic car is fine. But on both the original starter and new one the earmark where the one bolt goes through is broken off. The teeth on the old starter gear are still good as well. What do I do next? Do I possibly need to shimm the starter. Let me know what could be possibly wrong? The motor still cranks fine too. Thanks.

If you broke the ear off both starters, it sounds like something isn't lining up right and jamming the starter gear. The flexplate isn't bent or warped at all is it? If you need a hand, let us know.

I have the same problem...it only happens every once in a while but it sucks. Tried 3 new starters and it still does it. I was told by someone that some of the teeth on the flywheel may be jacked up. doesn't seem like its going to be a fun job if thats the case.
