Any real estate agents here?

I might have an opportunity to get into this field...yes I know the market blows right now but it won't be that way forever. I know I have to take a 60hr course and file for the license(they do a back round check so that might screw me).

Anyone in the biz?

i worked at a real estate agency and learned a little bit about the business while i worked there... i suggest doing commercial if you could, and maybe even consider getting acquainted with appraising, i stop in from time to time to see how everyone is doing at the office and was in there about a week ago. my old boss was telling me how the appraisal business has actually grown this past year but that the real estate part has not really taken much of a hit either

I think I might pass on it. Too much out of pocket $$ with schooling, insurance, registration etc. I'm not looking to scrape by while I build a client base...I need $$$ now lol.

I don't have any now. There's no way I'm going through all that training, all that upfront $$$ to see if I like it or not. I need stable income after I'm done with unemployment. There's no way I'm spending that $$ to take the chance of not having income for a few months.

Oh well, time to start the next idea.

yeah there is about $1,000 up front cost after you pay for the course and the errors and omissions insurance, the test, business cards, signs, etc.... Definately not a get rich quick type business. You could get your license and become a referral agent. basically you just have to take the course and the test probably 300 bucks or so. Then you hang your license with a company and anytime you know of a friend or relative or someone the is going to buy or sell a house you call a realtor that you have a mutual agreement with and he pays you 35% of the commission which could be anywhere from $1,000 bucks and up depending on the price of the house.

So for just referring a name you get paid not a bad deal esp. if you know a lot of people just starting out looking to buy their first condo or small home, friends getting married, parents friends that maybe are looking to downsize cause kids are gone. etc...
