ls1 trans am reliability
well there is a small chance i may be in the market for a ls1 4th gen trans am in the future, how is the reliability of the car as a daily driver? is it a car that will stay together through 4 years of college? i would get one with 40-50k on the clock.

*points to what used to be Ryans car* How about that for reliability? 13.0 in the 1/4 with 180k miles, and beat on, still ran fine. Or you can ask daskinnyguy.

I bought mine with 38,000 miles back in 2005. It currently has 82,700 miles. Only thing I replaced was plugs and a water pump. And it includes raced miles of course. So I'd say it holds up just fine.

They are good DD's but keep in mind the youngest ones are still 7 years old. You will have to do some maintenance to keep it nice.

as long as it wasn't completely beat to crap, you shouldn't have any major issues.

Hell yea great car to daily drive, im an M6 and the lowest MPG ive gotten was 21 ive gotten as high as 32 but that was on cruise control at 65mph even doing an average of 75mph you can get 29mpg. Spark plugs needed to be changed but overall as long as your not beating it from stop light to stop light and you just drive it you will get to all the places you want. AC, Heat, defroster all does wonders. No wind noise driving on the highway. Heck 17,000 miles since july 08 only stupid problems but every car has them.

Hell my car was a 95, not even an LS1, but even my boat anchor LT1 made it to 130,000 and probably could've gone way beyond with a lot of mechanical needs. I think that just speaks heavily of the durability of these cars.

Reliability is crazy. I have 180K on mine, drive crazy, and have 35 passes on it this year alone. When I took it to the track earlier this year, I ran it 22 times in one day...hot lapping it, and nothing broke. The only thing that ever "broke" was the ac idler pulley and it wasn't broken, it just had an annoying squeak.

Mine has been awesome to drive. Great dd. A few minor issues, nothing over $100 to fix, all electrical or cosmetic, no engine/drivetrain issues at all. Im at 75,000 miles now on mine.

I've actually read a few cases on ls1tech where low mileage/babied cars usually end up having more reliability issues than the cars that people beat on. Just make sure you open it up every now and then.

read the high mileage threads on tech. there are LS1s with over 200k, no major issues.
