				RIP Les Paul, genius

Oh, no. Sad news from AP . Les Paul’s influence on all music is immeasurable, well beyond the iconic guitar that bears his name.

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. - Les Paul, the guitarist and inventor who changed the course of music with the electric guitar and multitrack recording and had a string of hits, many with wife Mary Ford, died on Thursday. He was 94.

According to Gibson Guitar, Paul died of complications from pneumonia at White Plains Hospital. His family and friends were by his side.

As an inventor, Paul helped bring about the rise of rock 'n' roll and multitrack recording, which enables artists to record different instruments at different times, sing harmony with themselves, and then carefully balance the "tracks" in the finished recording.
 | On top of that he was such a smooth player. I have the LP boxed set, and while it is not a style probably anyone here would really like, his playing is just outstanding. Effortless speed, but totally within what he was doing and with soul and feel.

RIP you genius of electric guitars and multi-tracking.

I'll add if you can find it, there is a terrific documentary on his life and work, maybe it was on PBS. It may be out on youtube as well.

Great comment:
My young kids don't comprehend the loss or the significance of his contribution........to explain I say, to them without Les Paul there would be no 'Guitar Hero'

Seems like he was a great guy. He accomplished so much in his life, besides designing one of the most popular guitars in history. His contributions to music were great.
