a small brain tickler...
i have a lock. the lock has three dials with the numbers 0 thru 9 on them. obviously, the combination to open the lock consists of three numbers. am i right in assuming by cycling through all of the numbers on the dials, as in 0-0-1, 0-0-2, 0-0-3...9-9-9 that i will hit all possible combinations? i think it's true, that after going through all of the numbers that i will have hit every possible combination to open the lock. yet, the lock has not opened yet. if it is true, then there must be some kind of lock-out that will keep you from doing that and finding the right combination.
thoughts?

I believe continually pulling the lock while trying to figure out the combo pulls it away from the teeth enough for you to not find out what the combo is. you'll have to pull it everytime to find out. Ive tried that as well.

not all at one time. over the course of about two or three weeks. i'd sit and do a hunnert or two and then put it down. so i should force it tighter closed before trying to open it, is that it?

I really dont think simple locks have safeties on them. I do know that alot of them wont pop open if your just constantly pulling on them when you hit the combo though. So you might be onto something.

kinda reminds me of "Real Genius" with the guy trying all the numebr in order to hack into the government computer.
Good luck Jim, I would lose interest and smash/shoot/plasma cut real quick
