People don't like change but it gets tough to keep modifying a design that's been around for year while keeping it fresh and exciting. If they called it something else, would you like it?

They need to sell cars. End of story.

There's a reason the SS died in 1972 and did not come back officially until the 5th gens. And the Z-28 died in 75-76.
The Camaro itself was almost cancelled in 72-73 outright.

The vette isn't a muscle car. The mustang never really was either.

My opinion, while other "enthusiasts" may hate me for it, is this. The companies are there to turn a profit, there is an estimated 7.03 BILLION people on the planet. If you are conservative and say just 2.5 billion are driving age in countries where they can actually drive, that's still a ton of buyers.

The cars that make it from paper, to clay, to metal, to the dealers have to, as a business model, appeal to the highest number of those people as possible. That is NOT purists and forum junkies and racers. This small group generally hated each new generation of whatever their favorite nameplate is, yet, the cars keep selling and keep growing on people.

Whatever it takes to keep the big 3 selling enough cars to survive is basically what they should do

If they made the newer age muscle cars identical to the original cars of the 60s and 70s it would take the excitement out of seeing one. You don't see many on the road and that's what interests people to own a classic car and go to meets to see them.

If they made a new nova identical to mine I'd be pissed.(if mine was completed lol)

the rendering I saw a while back looked like the 2014 probe. yippee! lol

mustang sales continue to disappoint, they have milked the retro market. time to change. if that change is good is still to be seen

I think it's a mistake to assume that every modern sports car built needs to look like the old version. It's a totally different car. The old versions are still out there and can easily be bought, if that's what you want.

They could retro the 70-73 mach fastbacks or retro the early 2nd gen f/bodies...always thought of that but what breathed new life into the who retro theme was the new beetle and mustang when they first came out..seemed like retro worked....but to go w/what MIKE said originally is true...market tests after tests, listening to the buyers and general turn of the industry is what dictates how a car is going to look....even down to the instrumentation that may look apple'ish is to mimic what buyers want or are into at the time.

The problem is that all of the cars look the same. Now if you don't like the front end you are done looking at fords. They need to have some variation. Just like chevy needs to do. Other than that I agree with the majority here. 10 years of the same general body with only bumper changes is what kills cars. Look at fourth gens.

SLP made it, not GM directly is probably what WBT is getting at.

You think a 4th gen Camaro does? Only thing I can think of that they share with the previous 2 generatios is the much maligned "cat hump", which stayed due to laziness even after it stopped being necessary.

I think making modern engines look pretty will continue to be done w/plastic overlays for factory setups.....

If it can be ordered from a dealer and carries a warranty it is made by that company.

Also. You picked a 100% incorrect example, the gt500 is built at and by ford and simply lisenced by Shelby
