The healing power of wrenches

To be brutally honest, I really have a hard time getting out of bed most days. When my wife passed away in October it really took a lot of life out of me. And now trying to deal with finances, medical bills, etc etc etc on top of feeling lower than whale chit doesn't make things any easier. Plus I quite drinking due to health and an addiction problem, so I can't numb anything there. But I will say that buying my CSRT4 probably saved my sanity, and maybe even my life. I can't wait to go out and turn a wrench on it, or just turn wrenches in general. Today I took a mental health day from work and am doing the brakes on my Cavalier, so I'll have a good winter beater and can give the SRT4 a break. Many of the best times in my life involved hot rods and friends met through the hobby. So, I'm back in where I know I'll get some happiness. On Sunday I'm heading to Pa to meet up with a guy who has a SRT4 that is putting down over 500 hp to the wheels. And I'm hoping to take a road trip this winter out to Indy, to go to the Speedway museum. So, I don't care what it takes, I'm staying in this hobby as an active participant. Cause it is one of the few things that gives me satisfaction and happiness anymore

Sometimes the wrenches cause even more grief! LOL. I do like a nice long ride to soothe the nerves. Hang in there Bob.

I hear ya about the long rides...I've burned up a lot of fossal fuel drivin' and thinkin' in the SRT4. And as far as wrenches causing grief...yeah...but I'd rather be mad at the wrenches, cause then comes positive thinking to get out of the mess the wrenches caused. Hell, the very first wrench I put to the SRT4 equaled a broken stud! But thanks to a right angle drill and a self tapping screw I came out smelling like a rose! lol

I was out in the garage today wrenching on the boat. I'm glad it was nice enough to open the garage doors to let the light in and since I was taking out the gas tank, of course I had to spill some. It doesn't matter if it's car, truck, bike or boat, nothing seems to want to cooperate when it comes time to take things apart. But it did feel good to get back wrenching on something. I've been spending way too much time in the office lately on the computer.

i dont agree. after you lose a spouse everything you do from that point on is tougher and harder than its ever been. that doesnt mean anyone should give up though, but its still a lot harder than it ever has been.

I do agree though Bob, doing something that you love, even if its a mind numbing routine task such as brakes, is a great way to get your mind off things and just kinda cruise mentally for an hour or so

Well, since I was already into the Cav, I did pads, rotors, cv shafts and hub assemblies. I can't complain, 'cause the car has 140+ thousand miles on it, and was still on the orig. rotors, cv shafts, and hubs. Now I can give the SRT4 a break for bad weather.

I am not taking the SRT off the road for the winter, I just needed to make sure the Cav is up to snuff for bad winter weather. If it is not snowing of such I will have the SRT at Firkin day.
