Homebrewers?

After making several batches of Mead, I decided to try my hand at beer. My decision was made easier due to the presence of a homebrew shop right down the road in Hackettstown, Homebrew University.

First batch is a brown porter. It wasn't as bad as I would have thought it would have been. It was actually kind of fun. Will probably be more fun 'testing' the end product.

Anyone else here homebrew?

I don't but a buddy of mine does. He is on his fourth or fifth brew. All have been pretty tasty.

LOL. Same deal. My buddy does too. I did a few bag brews with him (at work no less). Biggest success was a Sierra Nevada Celebration clone. Came out great.

Mike: You're on!

Maybe I can use this tasty, tasty homebrew to lure some of the get-togethers in a more northernly direction?

I've got it way too easy - there is a brewery on the other end of the building where my shop is... Good to be friends with the neighbors!

Flounder? Huh?

On a related note, the first batch is happily bubbling away in the fermenter. Already working on plans for a second batch. I'm going to need more equipment.

It's a definite possibility as I get my equipment/act together.

My brother just brewed up a batch of Amber Ale the other night so we'll see how it comes out. He hasn't done too many recently so it might take a couple tries for him to get back on track.

Heavy - Not sure if it would be cheaper, but you can make beer the way *you* want it. Startup can be a little steep depending on how far 'into' it you want to get. Extract only brewing, mostly you need a 5 gallon pot, a fermenting pail and a 5 gallon carboy. A few other odds and ends. However it's a hobby/obsession that can turn into a real money pit.

Ok, just figured out the flounder thing. Now I feel slightly less stupid.

My latest homebrew, an Amber Ale. Capped off fifty bottles of it, now to wait for it to carbonate/condition in the bottle. Since this wasn't enough to fill a bottle, I drank it. Hey, it might be flat but it's still beer. It was damned tasty, too.

Made my first all-grain brew today. Everything went great with the mash and boil, now into the fermenter. Homebrewing beer might be the most rewarding hobby I've taken up to date.
