I have a Saturn Ion which is basically just a Cobalt/Crapalier with the ecotech and its been pretty reliable...as long as you can deal with everything being cheap and plastic feeling...im sure you can find them around cheap as hell now. mine has like 120k on an 07...never had any problems with it really.

Accord, camry, corolla, or civic. You could probably find a 4cyl tj too that shouldn't be too bad on gas plus 4wd as a bonus. I'd say box Cherokee for a reliable, cheap, all around good daily however it'll get the same gas mileage as your explorer.

Something awd. Preferably a n/a Subaru. Decent mileage, and will go through just about anything.

Unless you get a 4 cylinder cherokee...rare but out there. Mine gets 23 -25 highway with the 5 speed.
