Picked up a Third Gen

Finally got another F-Body. My wife wanted to get a 74-77 but there aren't many to choose from and when you do find them they are rough, at least in the range I was looking. Her second choice was another Trans Am like she had, so this is what we got. It is a '87 GTA with no engine or trans, everything else is there for the most part. We have a 400SBC and a 700r4 trans that we are gonna put in it, we plasti dipped it because it has a lot of little imperfections but we don't have the time or money to do body work. There is just a black base coat on it now, my wife didn't pick a color yet. We also put the Camaro wing on it from the last T/A we had. Not sure how quickly it will go together but I'll post more when I make progress!

Looks good from the side shot! FWIW, I've seen matte blue dip before on a Benz, I think it would look pretty sweet on your GTA.

Growing up I used to HATE those half cowl hoods. Now I love them. Go figure. Nice pick up though!

looks damn good for a plasti-dip job from that photo. this could be a very cool project with the 400 too. I'm assuming going carb setup on it?

Is the plan to have just a cruiser or will it see some track time too?

I suggest a good set of subframe connectors and a strut tower brace (preferably 3 point) no matter how you plan to use it. 3rd gens weren't particularly stiff to start with so you can only imagine the cowl rattle of a 27 year old one. .

Cruiser but gonna do some 11.50 Index also. It has subframe connectors, gotta look into the strut tower brace.

It's been a while since I even looked at the car, we got the engine and trans in a few weeks ago. It needed a bunch of misc parts so I have been looking for parts or a cheap parts car to finish it. Last week I found this on CL and ended up bringing it home today. It had a long list of good parts and only needs the engine and trans put back in to be road worthy again. So, this will be the wife's new ride and once we have what we need the black one will be going for sale! I didn't expect to be buying more than a parts car but I couldn't pass this up.

Thanks, we got the engine and trans in last night. BMR torque arm relocation cross member should be here today. If all goes well it should be on the road by the weekend.

I thought it would be running by now but the fuel pump is no good. Should have that fixed tomorrow and on the road. At least it looks good parked!

Finally got it running and took it for a test drive yesterday. A couple of the gauges aren't working but overall everything went good. I'll post a video of it in the daylight, we didn't finish until 10:30 last night.
