2001 formula 5.7 -- no modifications. we would like to get a little more noise, not so much that we annoy the neighbors. any advice would be appreciated.. We saw "loud mouth" pipes on the web. Plus if anyone has something the really like we would like to hear it sometime.

thanks

If you want subtle, don't get a loudmouth. Magnaflow is loud, and so it flowmaster. Borla is a lot of money, but comes with plates so you can decide how loud you want it. Corsa is another stainless system, but is kinda raspy. I like my Spintech setup. Very quiet until its opened up. I get alot of compliments. Go www.mufflex-performance.com to hear a sound byte.

I have the loudmouth installed on my 02 firehawk. I love it and have never gotten any bad feed back from anyone on it, they all compliment the sound. When you first start up and things are cold it sounds like ****, but thats every exhaust. I do agree with Jon though, the LT-1 sounds way better with it. My 97 WS-6 was amazing with it. It is extremely loud at WOT but if you can be reasonable in your neighborhood, no one should complain. Not to mention beating the price for the quality of the pipes. Magnaflow doesn't seem to be made very well, Corsa is rediculously expensive and doesn't look good IMO, and you can save the flowmaster **** for the mustang fellas (gay).

Just remember Flowmaster does not equal "flow"

I hear maganaflows & dynomax systems flow best for your buck and are decent enough, if your afraid of noise pollution.

And I read in alot of magazines that LS1's prefer 3" - 3.5" exhaust no more no less.

most fo the after market cat backs flwo the same amount of air, the loudmouth and borla flow a bit more, but not tons.
i am not a fan of the loud mouth personally. it has a rather raspy tone and is pretty loud at anythign above idle or arpund town cruise speeds.
spintech sounds nice, magnaflow sounds nice, flowmaster sounds liek every other car on the road, and corsa costs a fotune. there is also the gmmg system, sounds ok, pretty pricey though.
i woudl sugggest just going to teh track and looking/listening for a system that suits what you want. you are really only shopping for tone and appearance in an cat back system anyway, they do not provide much of a power gain.

wow, everyone seems to do hating on flowmaster. I have flowmaster cat back and bassani off road y-pipe and personally i like it. It sounds like nothing else on the road that i've heard around here. It has a nice moderate rumble at idle, and at full throttle, you know its coming. I will be changing my entire exhaust when i swap motors but flowmaster was a good price and made me happy.

if your gonna keep a cat on the car it wont be that bad...once you bypass the cat though it gets real loud real quick...at one point i didnt have a muffler at all on my 86 iroc and it was dead quiet, mainly cuz it had a stock cat on it...it was a 305tpi car...the 350 is gonna push more air but basically the loudmouth is just a strait pipe after the cat...in which case i say would sound fine on an otherwise stock car.

I like the tone that my hooker puts out. Its low toned and sounds great at higher throttle. Plus the tips fill the bumper cutout nicely like the stock ones.

			heres the bottom line....

slp loudmouth (i have it) on a car with stock manifolds that u arent going to do many mods with it is the best exuast.. if u plan on lt headers or going no cats u may want to rethink this descion becuase it will be very raspy... the lm is the cheapest and best flowing stainless exuast on the market...

magnaflow, is very nice, sounds good, decently priced, but it is very loud also with no cats and or longtubes... also the exuast isnt a true 3inch exuast... it is 2 3/4 in some places.

flowmaster=crap

borla, is probally the best sounding, most quality exuast on hte market.. it is very expensive though, but give u the option of change the sound via the plate system.. the only problem is that it is the most expensive.

if ur going to just leave ur car with intake and exuast, and dont plan on doing many other mods i would get the loudmouth, but if u are planning for a cam or lt headers or no cats i would get the borla or magnaflow

I had a 2000 SS with SLP y-pipe and flowmaster and was very happy with the sound. Then went to the Loudmouth because I just wanted to and liked it even more. It actully sounded better than the flowmaster, I didn' t think it was too loud at all, not enough to get the neighbors upset. All stainless, true bolt on, it was piece of cake to install, lightweight and good price. I'd do it again, I loved the sound of it.

Magnaflow is one of the best i hear, for the price. I want to hear one in person, but if you want to hear different exhausts with different set-ups go to www.ls1sounds.com for a HUGE variety!
