Quick general question about wiring.

I had a great idea that us guys always have. I took a motor off of an old dishwasher and am going to mount it to a bike. It will be powered by a car battery. Its got red, blue, white and black wires. I would assume red is + black is -. But when I hook it up to a source (car battery) all it does is spark on the terminals.Whats the blue and white do?

Umm, I think black is ground. As for the others, I don't have a clue. If you still have the manual it might mention it in there. Otherwise google muight be useful...

It's probably a DC motor anyway, so I wouldnt hook up 110V to it..... BIIIIG Difference between AC & DC.. More than likely, there is some circuitry that steps the voltage down to a certain value for the motor. Check the manual, or just run a search online for the part number and the motor serial number.

And also, the 4 leads are probably for a remote turn on, positive voltage and ground, and also a sensor to monitor the speed.
