Thank goodness for Medical Insurance
So as many of you know, my mother had a brain turmor removed last week (almost 2 weeks ago now). She spent a total of 8 days in the hospital, had 2 MRIs, a CAT scan, a stress test, and the surgery, and probably some other tests I"m forgetting.
She got the bill today...anyone wanna guess what it was? There were 10, yes, 10 pages of charges, and this doesn't include the bills from the individual doctors.
Did you guess anywhere near $83,692? Yes, 83 thousand dollars. And it all looks to be covered by the insurance.
We'll see what happens when the bills for the surgeon and the anesthesiologist come in.

Insurance is a life safer when they cover stuff. I had a ambulance ride 2 miles from the doctors to the hospital for 525 dollars. Not covered by insurance. Even after i sent them the bill over and over againa dn called a gazillion times.
And thats not to mention all the hassles i had with cobra, and my old job's insurance denying payment on 75% of everything. Ugg ... Im glad its all over till I get hurt or sick next.
But like i said, why its all said and done, its great to have it.

Ya, her ambulance bill was about $500, but she only has to pay about $150 of it.
I went to the ER twice in 5 days for breathing problems and had to pay 10% of the bill...same insurance. Dunno how she got out of that. Not that she could pay 10% of that bill. It's quite rediculous.
Mind you, this does not include the individual doctor bills, from the surgeon or the anesthesiologist. We'll see what the final tally is for all of that.

1. sat in ER
2. saw a doctor, who almost made me cut my favorite hoody, ****er
3. got x-rays
4. he gave me a massive shot of something beautiful
5. sat around waiting for x-rays
6. another doctor told me i broke my collar bone
"thanks *******, like i couldnt tell from THE ****ING 2 HUGE BUMPS OF HARD **** PUSHING MY SKIN AWAY FROM WHERE IT SHOULD BE"
the bill was like 3 grand for me being there for about 2 hours, we paid 35 bucks 8)

Hey, really glad to hear she made it through the surgery. Big bill or not, she pulled through. With luck she wont have any major personality changes.
Dont let the bill steal your happiness of having her alive and recovering.

Thanks. It is quite amazing that she had NO side effects r comp;ications whatsoever from this. Luckily the tumor was sitting on top of the brain, so once they removed the piece of skull it was right there. It was on a part that controls motor movement, and she had no numbness or paralyzation. So yeah, don't worry, I've already spent the time "celebrating" (can't think of a better word) that she's ok.

Well, appendicitis isn't brain surgery. (not trying to be offensive about it, but I would expect brain surgery to cost more than apendicitis)
So mom told me the breakdown of the some of the costs:
her ICU room for 1 day: $15k
blood: $8k (she didn't realize it til she got this bill, but they apparently had to give her blood in the OR)
Surgical supplies: $25k
Her room for the other 7 nites was $600 a night or something like that. Â*The hospital she was at only has private rooms, which was nice, but apparently expensive as well, heh.
Those are all I can remember now. Â*I think they were the significant ones anyway.
I knew going in to this it would be quite expensive. But I was guessing more around $60k, including the ambulance and the individual doctors' bills. The ambulance bill was about $500 (she has to pay about $150 I think), and she hasn't gotten the other bills yet...should be interesting tho.
