Need some more help.

Well Since you guys are alot wiser then me, and have been around almost double the time ive been around, some people tripple.. the last thread we discussed and agreed i should return my nitrous, In this thread its about a new motor.

Well lethalride's can build me a motor, that should make great power, id be getting a sweet deal, and I trust him.

My question is:

Should I spend a couple hundred bucks for a new motor(after returning a fewparts).

Should I cam my motor and get it runing.

or just put the motor back together and get it runing?

Thanks in advance,
Matt

The help you need cannot be supplied by anyone here as we do not have the training or experiance to deal with the problems you have.
But as far as your car....yeah, Pace performance sells a turn key 350 with AC for 3500 bucks. That means bolt it up, hook up fuel and battery, and you are ready to go.

wayfast to be perfectly honest with u i really dont want to build this motor for u,theres just something about giving a 16 yo a motor that is capable of making over 400 hp,that dosent seem right lol,but i opened my mouth and told u i would ,so if u still want it ill do it,im not gonna go back on my word now.

im gonna say,as most ppl here will tell u,u have no experiance in a car,u dont know much about engines, putting that 305 back together and learning on that would be a better idea,it will still be fast enough for u at first, and if u **** up the motor learning who cares its a 305,u throw it away.if me/somone builds u a motor, what do u learn?nothing but how to install it,u may have a nice motor, but u still have 0 understanding or knowledge about the engine.

al the motor i was selling him/building was gonna cost him 1,500 carb to pan,and would prolly make 400+hp actually i know it will make about 450 hp.i was just gonna not use a really large cam and keep the cr down a bit for him,to keep the power level down

Well Its a REAL GOOD deal so right now yes im intrested, and I do think I learned alot with my 305's I went from spark plugs and oil to bolting up a y pipe- doing an intake- almost installing a cam, and I probably wouldve, but considering parts I have were about half of what the motor is, I think Im gonna wise up and finally listen to other people about 305's...

its definately a good deal but the experience youve listed is nothing compared to what you need/want. i'd say tear apart the motor and then rebuild it (or partially rebuild it)

not to bust your balls or anything but the stuff you listed is basic stuff, well maybe except for the cam install. what might be an even better idea is buying a shot(blown up) 305 and tear that apart and learn everything you possibly can about it. that way you can learn alot of **** and still have a car that runs

Well I wouldnt waste my cash for a 305 or to rebuild one, plus my car doesnt run.

I know you guys think its alot of power, I do to but I think I could handle it as long as I keep reminding my self that I have to pay for insurance.

well in that case rip the 305 apart and learn everything about it, we all know that im nowheres near an expert on engines but a 305 and a 350 are pretty much the same thing but with minor differences (cam, displacement,2 more cylinders, etc...) right??

Can we get a ban here? 2 more cyls? Cam?
305 has a smaller bore then a 350, same stroke. Both are Small Block V8 engines, that means they both have 8 cylinders.
They share some parts, but you can only make so much power with teh 305. Yeah, you can do some stuff with a 305, but you can spend the same money on a 350 and make a lot more power.

Matt, I think you should send back the nitrous, and stab the cam in the 305. It will be a good learning experience for you, and it will make enough of a difference in power to give the LG4 some omph.

When I turned 17 my first car was an '85 Camaro with a 2.8, and that car *almost* got me into all kinds of trouble. A lightly modded 305 is plenty of motor for someone learning to drive. I know Dave has offered you a good deal on the 350, but regardless, you are still spending more money than you need to if you go with it.

You idiot. Just finish what you started, and keep it to one project at a time. You are quickly going to find out what happens when you have numerous projects running on the same car at the same time – nothing ever gets done, and what does get finished gets done half-assed. If you really want to play with cars, this is an excellent learning experience. Even if the 305 implodes, so what? Stop changing your mind every 2 minutes, and your 1st car need not run 12s. Most cars don’t, even if their owners say they do.

I, along with just about everyone here, told you not to buy the nitrous, so yes, get rid of it.

god, we get another "what should i do" or "i want" post every day any more.

Step 1: Make a decision
Step 2: Make a plan
Step 3: Execute the plan

it isn't a difficult concept.

I never said that you weren't cutting him a good deal. I'm saying that by spending money on any form of new motor in his current situation, he's spending more money than he needs to.

He's already got a motor that has nothing wrong with it besides a few miles. HE's 15. He doesn't need a 350, regardless of everyone's feelings on the 305....

Fix your 305. You are not ready for 400 horsepower and neither is your car. A motor that makes alot of horsepower is only part of the total package. Alot of power with a rear, trans, and chassis that can't hande it is still a slow car. Make a REALISTIC plan and stick to it.
