				Speaker replacements

I have a 96 trans with the 10 speaker system and built in equalizer cd head unit which i love... but the speaker in the passenger door started to crack lately. i brought it to a place but they said since its an all inclsive system theyd have to redo the entire car to upgrade... i'm really not to interested in doing that anyway so i decided to just replace the speakers... but how do i know what to get? do i just go to a pontiac dealership? id rather buy brand name ones this time around like infinity or polk or whatever because i get a discount here at circuit ******.

Does your car have a Monsoon system? I'm not sure what year they started with. If it does, I replaced my door speakers with Infinity Kappas 60.7cs 6.5 inch components. They are 2 ohm speakers, and worked well with the stock monsoon amp, until I got my Rockford.

I went with Rockford Punch all the way around, and it sounds beautiful. Those guys kinda BSed with you too. Just cuz one speaker is screwed doesn't mean you have to do the whole system. It is suggested, but really not neccesary.

I thought that the Bose and Monsoon systems both had their respective name written on the head unit face somewhere....

My headunit had a monsoon logo on it near the LCD screen. If yours is a monsoon I know alot of the specs and could help out, but again I'm not sure what year they came out in. If you have the Bose system I was told each speaker has it's own small amp, and that sounds like a big headache. The monsoon amp is back by the spare tire, kinda tough to see.

My radio doesnt say Bose or Monsoon anywhere on it, but theres definatly 10 speakers. Did they make non brandname "upgrade option" systems?

You should try searching the boards at LS1tech.com, maybe someone there can help you figure out what system you have. Once you know what your starting with, it will be that much easier to decide what direction to go in.Good luck.

No one knows the stock specs? All I want to do is replace the speakers, not the unit or amp or wires etc. but I'd perfer not to do it with GM parts.

With pics we could prolly identify your system much faster.

each door has a speaker and a tweeter...4

rear sail panels each have a sub.............2

the hatch has pretty much the same as the doors...4

mine currently only has the door speakers.....and they may be leaving soon too

I have the 10 speaker too, non-premium set up. I first replaced the front speakers and the rear panel. Didn't like the way it sounded in the hatch, but sound wasn't too bad. Went and replaced the hatch speakers, and now i'm good. =) But like I said before, If you just wanna replace the front, you really don't have to do the rest.
