New F-Body in town (header install help)

Hey guys,
This is my 1st post. I just bought a 94 z28 a4. I bought it with a bad cat, so i figured to just buy a whole new exhaust, but the problem is, im looking for a nice fbody shop or some1 that can do it for a reasonable price. I'm buying pacesetter lt's w/ matching ypipe. But from wut i heard that the pacesetter ypipe sucks?!

Hey whats up! Where are you in North Jersey? Theres a couple of shops around here and also a lot of friendly people, just make yourself known and we'll try and lend you a hand.

I have pace-setters on my 95 Lt1 with their off-road y-pipe and I must say it went together very well and the ground clearance is amazing.

ok kool so the pacesetter y pipe fits fine. I honestly plan on running the open y pipe with the headers til i buy a qtp cut out to conect to the stock cat back i can only imagine how loud this setup could be...

I'd recommend a Borla catback with that setup. It's the same setup i had on my trans am and everyone here can attest to it's AMAZING sound, plus with just a pair of rubber plugs the car becomes silent

I too had a borla on my old Z28 with some headers, I actaully got voted loudest car on base...well actually i came in second, there was another z28 with the same exhaust with more work done at the time (mine was stock) it sounded sick!

i have an LS1, so different animal......but with pacesetters, a TSP catted Y, and loudmouth, to me sounds like pure heaven. only thing better would be a nice carbed old school V8 with headers and flowmasters (like my 78 ). i dont know much about shops in jersey ******, but if you want to make a trip up to rt. 23, theres Stage 1 Performance. did my headers and Y pipe install. should be around an hour trip for you, without traffic.

added note, dont use the pacesetter gaskets. get brand new GM ones, theyre much better.

the pacesetters now come with copper gaskets which are very good quality, i used them with no problems

dude lol omg, stage 1 quote'd 400 sumthin for an install !
If this is the typical number shops are charging, i rather make a member hear couple bills richer...

the problem with the stock catback is that your power gains from the exhaust will be offset by the bottleneck the tiny stock exhaust creates. If you run a Borla it comes with a built in cutout and you can either slap an e-cutout in that location for the same effect with more power or just go the pool plug route(which i did) and be good to go

I be honest, im guna run an open y pipe for lil bit.. till i buy the qtp..soo i got plenty of tyme to think about it..But this header install i was thinking of tackling it my self but i hoenstly dunt hav space to do this.. heh hopefully a member here has the hook up.

400 for a header install is fairly standard for LS1 shops. might be cheaper then quite a few other places. you can go to any repair shop, but they wont really know what theyre doing. you get what you pay for. if you can do it yourself, then go ahead. at the time, i had neither the room nor desire to do it myself.

AS joe dirt says, " DANG " mmm yea im going to let my dsm brother of mine help me with the install if we do it. We have a car lift we can use in newport mall parking lot...

Make sure you soak the stock manifold bolts good with a penetrating oil or something at least twice a day for a few days before you unbolt everything. Mine were frozen and we broke every bolt holding the stock y-pipe and then on in the cylinder heads, and thats now why i have a heads & cam car
