99 TA headlights

if anyone saw bullrun, the charger had headlights that opened really slow....it looked amazing. i want to do that w/ my T/A. if i just put a resistor in front of the headlight motor, itll wear out the motor. does anyone have any other suggestions on what to do?

well, you could get 2 linear actuator motors and completely remove the oem motors, then use a relay off one headlight motor connector to a relay and use a potentiometer to adjust each one to the desired speed.

Could always try and change gear ratios on the motors. Might take some dismantling reassmbly fabrication. Im not sure what the motors exactly look like or how they are designed. Just an idea.

couldn't you just put a potentiometer in-line with what's already there and lower the current to the motors thus slowing them down? i'm not sure at all but sounds good in my head.

i think if i slow down the motors, itll wear them out faster....it may not but this isnt something i want to have to work on all the time. im thinking about using those things they use all the time on pimp my ride...the rod shaped things that get hooked to a motor and can be set for speed and distance traveled...then hook that up to the wires that fed the headlight motor previously and theyll open when the old ones would have....i dunno

I'm not master electrician, but I think if you lower the current to a motor that designed to operate at a certain current, it will usually cause premature failure.

I don't remember the name of the device, but an engineering friend of mine (used to post here) was talking about using one to make the electric fan on his 3rd gen variable speed. Basically the device just supplied and cut power to the electric motor in continuous (very fast) cycles. If you want the fan to spin faster, set the device to spend more time on than off. If you want slower, set it for more time off than on. It happens so fast you shouldn't notice anything besides the motor moving faster or slower.

yeah you could probably use a blower motor switch with the diffrent resistors in it. I really dont think it would war the motor unless you had the thing rippin up and down

i think whatever you do to make it work, it wont be cool enough to satisfy the amount of money/time/future work/weight that you have put into it.....just leave them the way they were intended

I agree. This would look cool when you are opening and closing your headlights but that's it. What would you do, sit at car shows raising and lowering them? I see the coolness factor but I don't think it's worth the effort for the minimal benefit.

alot of the early 1st gen DSM guys unhook the headlight motors and run brighter fogs and bulbs, actually looks kinda good. but thats those car NOT an f body lol
