yup looks nothing alike to me. the front end is cheap and plasticy looking and the rear end looks like it was just that. rear ended.  im not a fan. 
     
only resemblence i see is the 1/4 windows. which are the only things i hate about a first gen camaro. 
 
my fav gen for f-bodies is the thirdgens but yeah.

the camaro fails |  Looks alike to me just more modern...Cars big and i wished it performed a little better but is a sharp looking car... That being said Ill probably wait til the 5.0 stangs come back out and grab one of them.

And the early IRS's were not good in design. Something about a crappy camber curve or something like that. Vette guys may cry foul but it's exactly why VBP sells smart struts and such.
