Suggest a Headunit

Looking to put a headunit and sub in my Silverado. Features i'd like the headunit to are Bluetooth and Front USB+Aux input. I never play Cd's so that's not a priority and I don't have an Ipod so Ipod controls are useless to me. Looking to spend $150 max.

Took a quick look on Crutchfield, I wasn't sure if you had a regular or extended cab. I don't think it would make a difference but here is the best I could find that fit your criteria.

I filtered out just to what you wanted and came up with 3 choices...

All of them have atleast:

priced < 150$ (free shipping on orders of 49+ I think)
Built-in Bluetooth
6 Preamps (F/R/Sub)
USB/3.5mm Jack input
Should work with any iPod

Clarion CZ500
Same as above although the USB is in the rear. Only 3.5mm up front. Does have 4 Volt preamps though, those are nice. Doesnt explicitly say anything about hands-free calling. Peaks at 50Watts, average (RMS) 19Watts. $140.

Dual XDMA6415
Probably my least favorite of the three. Most expensive as well. Hands-free calling, peak of 50Watts, RMS 17Watts. Front USB/3.5mm. Unlike the other two, this one will not do HD radio. 150$

Kenwood KDC-BT645U
Lastly there is the Kenwood, Def the nicest looking one IMO of these 3. Front USB/3.5mm, 50Watts Peak 22Watts RMS HD radio ready USB mem card slot hands-free calling yeah all for $140. I would most likely go with this one (although I prefer/have alpine).

I skipped over a ton, but if you compare the overviews I think there is enough information on there to help make a good choice. Don't just take my word though, educate yourself a bit so you know what you are buying/looking at If you have any other questions let me know

I only run Pioneer headunits, and have since 2001.

This fits you requirements... bluetooth, USB(front) and under 150.

http://www.autotoys.com/x/product.php?productid=18237

and only $136.95
(it appears that is the 2010 model, (blue display) ... the 2011 model is red and is like 165)

Plus I've bought all my main radio stuff off that site and they are awesome with fast shipping.

If you have a extra 50 bucks, I just installed this over the weekend in "misfit385"'s car.

http://www.crutchfield.com/p_130MVP8...200BT.html?c=3

Very well worth it. Doesnt use cds, so its all Radio, USB, Line in, and SD card. very clean sounding and does bluetooth also.

I saw that when I was looking at crutchfield the other day. Definitely caught my eye, I'm leaning towards going with a Pioneer headunit(I like their overall design better).

I have this installed on my Camaro and can shine some light on it. First off, it's damned easy to use. Very convenient features and plenty of little toys that come with it (like text scroll, so you know what songs on). The HD radio is noticeably better than conventional radio, I love it.. but then again I never listen to the radio. The aux/usb port work great. Strong feel for the buttons, although the power button may be a LITTLE weaker than the rest of them. I used the aux port for many months with my old mp3 player and now use the Ipod functionality in it.

I love this head unit. Buy it.

Oh and Crutchfield is your best bet for a headunit, includes all the stuff you need to install it FOOOOO FREEEEE. Cheap prices too!

It also comes with a remote.. but not seeing how much use you'll have though.

I've been doing a lot of research lately since I'll be purchasing in the next couple of days and I'm leaning towards this unit which is a little out of my price range: http://www.crutchfield.com/p_158BT39...U.html?tp=5684

It seems that kenwoods usually have crappy Bluetooth mics so they are my last choice. Alpine has some nice units, but I don't like their overall design. Sony seems to be the only one that offers bluetooth that can media stream(really what I wanted bluetooth for), so I really like Sonys. Pioneer is the 2nd brand I'd consider, but not being able to stream bluetooth media files is holding me back, also, Pioneer seems to have the lowest RMS power output while sony usually has the most RMS per channel.

Any other suggestions? I will go over budget if someone finds a really nice unit, but over $200 is still out of question.

what pioneer do you have? I really like the 8200bt, but all the reviews on it say I can't stream music over bluetooth. It may also depend if your HU came with bluetooth built in or if you have an adapter.

Sony's of yore were not good. Can't speak for the newer stuff though. I have a Pioneer in my Saturn and an Alpine in my Camaro. Both don't fit what you are looking for, but I can definitely say that the Pioneer made my Saturn's OEM speakers sound amazing. Don't focus too much about a few watts difference in rating because 1. the difference will be likely unnoticeable, 2. EQ settings are more important to fine tune, and 3. it's already a huge improvement over stock.

If you care to check them out, my Saturn has a AVIC-X920bt and the Camaro has a iDA-X100

Edit: Just purchased it, when it gets here, we'll see if it streams audio through bluetooth or not, but even the recent reviews say it doesn't so I'm doubtful. But the overall design of it was too good to pass up.

Here's another link about no bluetooth streaming http://blog.komeil.com/2010/03/pione...mech-free.html

There's an option on the headunit to add a bluetooth headset but I havent messed around with it, but that may work. But connection it as a phone only get me my phonebook and recent calls.
