				Rear end decison

so once again i blew my rear... I want to replace it with anything stronger 12bolt/9'/8.8 whatever as long as it holds. Currently i cant find a good deal on a used rear and buying a new one is way out of my price range.

This leaves me a little undecided, should i slap in a replacement ten-bolt and hope it holds or just leave the car on jackstands until i can afford a proper rear.

it wont hurt to toss a cheap stock unit in if you want the car drivable till you can afford a nice rear and do all the research into what you want. just take it easy on the car.

i went through a few ten bolts and finally pulled my head out of my ass and decided to buy a 12 bolt, only a little over 2k brand new shipped to my door, now i just need the money lol..and if you can do without your car take it off insurance so you save the money from that to helpfund the rear, if not just buy a replacement ten bolt

"leave the car on jackstands " - worst idea listed. cars are not sedentary things and sitting is bad for them. and it is a waste of car.

either pony up and get a good one or buy a cheapo replacement, stay away from slicks and start saving your pennies.

s60s are cheap and I always see rears in classifieds. I saved around $1200 on the used one I bought.

As already said, there isn't a cheap upgrades for rears.

Your options are a 12 bolt, Ford 9 or Dana 60 style, each are around $2500 dependng on drive shaft, backing plates etc needed.

Throw in another stocker, and don't run sticky tires.

I've ruined one of those crappy 7.5 rears on 255/60/15 Radial TAs. You have 2 options: Either buy the right rear now or throw a cheap used one in and save your money, and hope you trip on a good used rear. Or learn to love the peg-leg.

And my ten bolt lives gloriously on MT ET streets...

Just buy a stock rear, leave it alone ( weren't you the guy who didn't know something was reverse threaded?) and don't drive like an asshat.

Save for a real rear end and win.

And ya i ****ed up the first time i did a rebuild. but i learn through my mistakes. atleast i dont gotta pop my hood to turn off my fuelpump

What about a older 9 bolt out of a 3rd gen? I had one in my 88 GTA and was told they hold up better then a 10bolt and you can get one from the junk yard for about the same price as a 10 bolt.. Might last a little longer untill you get a real rear end!!

third gen rears are narrower than a 4th gen. besides that i dont think it would direct bolt in anyway.

3rd gen rear is a direct bolt in, but he would need to run 3rd gen wheels in the rear to keep the spacing right.

Seriously? The money you spend getting the 8.8 to fit and bolt up would be much better saved towards the aftermarket bolt in rear of your choice.
