 |  My understanding is that sometimes a motor/trans mount mismatch or driveline misalignment can lead to case breakage. Polyeurethane (like yours) is stiffer and less forgiving so if something was out of wack it was transferred to the case instead of being absorbed by the mount.
 
However,
 
It could have just been an old PG case that had some fatigue in it already.
