Big Chief posted on twitter that he was ok and would be spending a few days in the hospital for mostly precautionary reasons. He did mess up his back and a bunch of other stuff but a full recovery is expected. No word on the other driver in the wreck.
For those that watch the show it was Chucky from Detroit with the red Mustang(participated in the national call out), apparently got loose and crossed the centerline hitting chief. He went to the hospital too but i haven't seen anything about how he is doing.
Big Chief did say that neither he nor his family have set up any of the crowd funding pages that are going around for him already. Warm your friends, we all know someone who watches too much TV that will blindly send money.
BTW, from the pics, both of those cars are completely write offs.

For those that opt for cheaper seats...
Not saying a thick aluminum would hold up better, but thats downright scary...

I think there's some back and forth going on about that brand of seat.
I saw somewhere that it's an Unlimited Products part and that it's the same type that failed on Daddy Dave.

Same here, although in my case it was a hood and not safety gear.

SFI rating standards for seats, just like other SFI ratings, mostly revolve around single impact incidents. Whatever rating is on the seat is only for the first hit, any subsequent rolling or banging around isn't really covered.
This is one of the justifications for oval and drag racing sanctions having rules that heavily favor aluminum seats. While fiberglass, plastic, and carbon fiber seats are designed to deflect and return, aluminum seats are more capable of distorting through multiple shots wbefore failing.
In road racing type accidents, vastly more often than not, the car hits one thing one time then comes to a stop. Drag racing wrecks often involve multiple impacts from going between the walls or rolling over. Circle track it is extremely common to get hit by other cars after an initial impact and often even get deflected back into the wall.
When picking out seats, or any other safety equipment for that matter, keep in mind that the application is just as important as the rating stickers on it.
