Yeah, I realized that after my post, that I goofed. But, the question still remains-What's up with everyone? Except of course for the handful like yourself, who HAVE been active in terms of coming up with ideas, and just generally showing that you're as interested as I am in seeing this thing succeed, there are a whole bunch who are just sitting on the sidelines, and we can absolutely use their help, in whatever capacity that is. I know this can be something big, my biggest fear, is that I don't let anyone down, and other than that, not much else.

I was still waiting to hear, if it was going to go as recorded, or are we getting hooked up to get it on the air.

I wouldn't worry about others too much. You can't expect everyone here to want to be involved in something like this. There are over 200 members here so far, and many of them are here for different reasons. I'm sure some people don't have the time to devote to something like this, and some of the people that do just aren't interested.

We have enough people involved right now to get this idea rolling, and we know this because it has already started picking up speed. I think as the idea develops more, and we gear up to begin filming, we will have more specific needs from people, and when that happens, others will jump in to help.

just like justin said we need a list or something similar with what is needed by a certain date...aka cars/cameras/setup crew/ etc...

imo thats the best way to get a filming session started

From your mouth, to g-d's ears

But, I do have to say, that I was very disappointed I didn't even see one person from this group, at the 'NJ Agricultural Museum' 'Car Show.' Sort of reminds me of the 'NY/NJ Slant-Six Club of America' that I run. We have at least 48 members who live close enough to make it to our annual Meet, all of whom get a Flyer for the event, and we're lucky if we get 10-15 of those to actually show up for the event.

I suppose though that the good news, is that the 'Average Guy's Car Show', is moving forward

that's just the nature of people, ben. it'd be the same if there were free beer and hot wings and all they had to do was show up - hands down more would either forget, have something else to do or just not show up for whatever reason (laziness, unsociable, fears/phobias - the list is a long one).

i can agree that with those type of people the harder you push, the less likely they are to do something. which is why as hard as i have been pushing the idea i will draw the line at trying to get people who have not responded involved in it (even though i have to catch myself sometimes...). i will make the suggestion from time to time, just to be sure that the newer members get an opportunity to respond to it and that those who saw no potential in it to begin with, know that this is something that will happen, but the people who have left themselves out have done so for a reason and no matter what you, i or anyone says, they have made up their mind they don't want to get into it (at this time).

as stated, the closer we get to actually filming and certain tasks are available, that will be another opportunity for those who have left themselves out, or are waiting for a specific task that they can fulfill be their motivating force to get involved, to avail themselves at that time.

within the next day or so i will crunch the list again so we know what we have and what we need at this time. we need wireless mics for filming. we need people to finalize in their own mind the entire process that they are volunteering their vehicles for, and then get that process out on a piece of paper or in an email (sent to me or Al), be sure they can afford the parts (and get everything they need prior to filming). not to single you out, but you have said you'd like to do a segment on detailing the engine bay (which makes for an excellent example as some people just think, oh, ok, he's going to clean the engine). what cleaners will you use, how will you protect the electrical system from exposure, what exactly are the steps involved in the whole process, what additional resources will you need? we're going to need as detailed explanation as possible so that we allot the correct amount of time to the process. is this something you can do yourself, others can help out with, you just need one other pair of hands... ? i am sure most people have not even considered cleaning their engine bay only because they have no idea where to get started.

so, you see, just as someone who is going to replace/upgrade their front suspension, there is a process to what you will be doing and the storyboard needs to reflect that. to date all we have are a few ideas floating around that pretty much everyone can agree on should be included in filming. what i thought was going to be a storyboard meeting ended up being a bull-session (which i imagine most get-togethers will be, anyway) but it was productive none-the-less, as we have a few more people on board. i'd like to get my engine buildup involved in the process, but i am not sure that it falls under "average guy" or that people would actually be able to sit through an engine building (even partially)... and, i am not altogether sure it would be appropriate as this is the first bottom-to-top buildup i've ever done, and i'll most likely have my nose buried in a book to make sure i don't make a mistake. or if the timeline that is going to be involved would coincide with my plans for getting it into the car it's going into, which leads me to the next thing...

filming will take place in the spring. it's almost cast in stone. the semi-pro we will have helping us out agreed that spring would be a good time to start filming, as he has other committments until then and he thinks that since this will be our first sojourn into filmmaking that we'll need the time to complete pre-production before the first camera gets unpacked. hell, if we get close enough and we can find a weekend before then to do some experimenting on our own before spring, i say we do it. it'll give us that much more exposure to this before we actually get together to film the material we'll need for the pilot. but there are quite a few steps that need to be covered prior to that date so that we'll all be comfortable filming - and not feel like complete jackasses.

I have a garage we can't even fit a car into and a ****** ass driveway so i can't really help there, but I'll definately keep an eye on waht I can contribute. Very soon I'm gonna be getting tires, then possibly a cat-back (TSP rumbler) after that, would these make good projects?

you'd be surprised how much people don't know about their cars. hell, even people who like to go fast don't know that an R compound tire is better for autocrossing - they assume since the technology started on the 1/4 mile track, then that's where it belongs. once you put sticky tires on all four corners, even two cars that were evenly matched prior to the rubber change are not quite so afterwards. also, what's the difference between a 10,000 mile tire and a 50,000 mile tire? why wouldn't a 50,000 mile tire make a good quartermile track tire?

and, since most people take their car to meineke (not a bad thing) when doing exhaust modifications, and don't attempt it in their driveway, and the other shows basically gloss over exhaust changes, they really have very little concept how the twists and turns go together (or why you'd need them, why not just a straight pipe?).

both of these ideas would make excellent segments.

I know you're right Jim, it's still disappointing though, but somehow, I'll get over that. Heck, I've managed to somehow put up with the laziness in the 'NY/NJ Slant-Six Club of America' for 17 years now, so, I'll grouse, and move on with what I can do.

My actual idea for a segment, was a bit simpler actually than a full scale engine bay clean-up. What I had in mind, was more along the lines of either a 'touch-up' detailing job on engine paint, which as simple as that is, may still seem daunting to a lot of folks, or possibly something slightly more involved, such as the partial repainting of the engine in my 1960 Plymouth. In either case, I know what I needed or would need for either job, and it consists more of time, part removal and cleaning (i.e. removal of old paint, minor rust, and refinishing), than it does of anything ele. The refinishing part is especially daunting to many folks, because they think you have to have all kinds of fancy spray equipment, when in fact a simple can of aerosol paint works great, when applied pretty much according to the instructions on the can.

Now about that jackass thing . Gee, you mean like when one screws up something that they know they shouldn't have, and then stand there with that-Don't I look stupid now-expression, like has happened to me one too many times.

i was speaking more for myself than anyone else. i don't like looking like a jackass, and i try to avoid it at all costs, even if it means not getting to do what i want when i want to do it.

planning, planning, planning...

i guess al's too busy with his new board to come over and check things out here. i haven't talked with him since the day before the meeting...

Understood. No insult intended, and if any taken, I do apologize for that. I simply meant to show that I've had some things go haywire, even with the best of planning, and many times due to my own mistakes, which makes me a lot less likely to be critical of someone else when the same thing happens to them.

Hope Al has some dynamite 'Storyboards' to show you when you do catch up with him. I still have high hopes for this project, and pray that nothing in my personal life what-so-ever, gets in the way of seeing this thing through

Hey Al, it seems that you and I have something in common. Both of our minds are like a maze, in my case, a somewhat twisted one

Dont know if anyone's seen it, but theres a shop on Rt 17s in Ramsey...Ramsey Pugeot. (Did i spell that right?) Believe it or not, that place is not out of buisness, despite how it looks. I've been inside there once. The garage in there is pretty big, and i think they may even have a lift. On top of that, they have a pretty big parking lot. If someone would go talk to the owner, MAYBE, just MAYBE, to get some publicity for his shop (namely, having RAMSEY PEUGOT on the top of the building on camera) he may help us out.

ben, you were asking for something to do a little while ago...

get together a possible list of products/manufacturers/distributors that we would likely use. gather as much information as you can on each. keep it simple, like your engine detailing segment, cat-back exhaust or something of the like. i want to try an experiment with one of them.

I'll go with the simplest one, the engine detailing job. The list for that one is very short.

1. Paint (Plasti-Kote) for the Pontiac Blue I use, Krylon for the Bright Silver,
Home Depot for the 'Satin Black.'

2. Artists Brushes (Pearl Art Center in Woodbridge NJ or Michaels in North Brunswick)

3. Lacquer Thinner (Home Depot)

4. Masking Tape (Home Depot)

5. Old Newspaper and Tin Foil for masking when doing large section repainting.

Like I had said earlier on, many people would be scared off from attempting even something like a minor touch-up job on the engine in their car, because they don't realize how simple it really is.
