To get the front wheels to fit with no rubbing I had to modify the inner wheels housings. It was needed because I have the car lowered from stock.

I needed to reshape the inner fender and the inside of the fender lip.

This picture shows exactly where it was rubbing and that's what dictated the design of the mods.

True, but I think the combination of 18" wheels, a much lower stance and the backspace proved to much for the inner fenders. I thought about changing the backspace but I really like the way the wheels sit in the fenders. To me, it looks perfect. Plus it really helped improve my novice welding skills.

Picked up another piece for my LS today. I bought the motor with 317 heads but found a set of 823 heads from another member here for $350. Pretty good deal I think. Hopefully I will get everything to the machine shop in the next few weeks.

Got the block back and it looks brand new, very happy.
Before I took it to the machine shop I spent some time deburring the oil passages. Always time well spent.
Spent some today cleaning and getting the block painted.

Thanks Mike,
I went with the 823 heads for 2 reasons.
One, they flow better and two, I got a great deal on them.
Each head had a broken exhaust bolt in them and the owner of the machine shop ended up fixing them for free. Good guy.
I am replacing the dished LQ4 pistons with LQ9 flat top pistons to bump up the compression a bit. The 2005 LQ4 rods are already the floating design but I think I will upgrade the rods for better ones with arp bolts.

Starting looking around for a set of cylinder head stands. Most were at least $50, so out came the tools and for $10 here's my homemade stands. The OCD in me won't let them stay looking like that for long. A little smoothing out & polishing is in order. They work great.
Used some over cleaner and all the carbon came right off.

Looking for a fast weekend fab job and came up with this, crankshaft stand.
Only one I found online was a Goodson one and it was $124.
Sorry, but for about $20 I can build my own.
Here it is.

Still collecting parts for the motor. Got the rods in the other day and researching cams right now. Still have alot of stuff to get.
My goal is to have it ready for the Optimum event next year.
We'll see how that works out.

Ok guy's, this is my first LS build and my first engine build in many years.
Trying to choose a cam , I contacted Comp Cams and this is what they suggested for me.
I told them it would be mainly a street car with the occasional auto or road course. I also said I was looking for around 450 hp. Maybe it's just me but does seem like a very aggressive cam for my purposes? Please let me know what you think.
lQ9 10.0:1 comp
L92 heads
Single plane manifold & carb
Stock rockers
Stock bottom end except for upgraded rods.
Long tube headers

I'm the farthest thing from an engine builder, but for a 6.0L I don't think that's all that aggressive.

My motor, thought it is a 5.7, has less aggressive of a cam than that and i just plan on going straight.
