back in the day(2001 and 2002) i ran an event at e-town called the east coast nats.
the people who helped me were great and i had a blast, but e-town is rough to deal with to say the least so i ended up dropping it. at that time i only had a few friends and two sites allowing me to promote. things are much easier with a whole car club behind us and god only knows how many sites with threads about the nats.

I was at the 01 nats with my 70 SS. I think there may have been only one other 2nd gen in attendance that day and I remember standing in a food line talking with somebody about getting the word out to the older f-body owners about the event. This year I have a buddy with a pretty orange 69 interested in coming up to Island. Hope he makes it.

It's not all on them, though. They are putting up the good fight to keep the track open. I have to give them a lot of credit for that.

I know it's not all them, but E-town is always a PITA and it isn't just noise related. I've been there a few times, I'll stick with Lebanon Valley.

they aren't fighting for anything. the whole facility and all the decisions are based solely on making money. long gone are the days that car nuts and former racers ran the place.
they bring millions of dollars a year into the area and everyone knows it. none of the surrounding townships coudl afford to lose the facility or the events it puts on without jacking up taxes to the point no one was left to pay them.
instead of "fighting" for anything they jsut run and hide from the town council of a township that they aren't even in. if they wanted to "fight" they would have told all those people who built houses next to a 60 year old airport and 50 year old track to shove it too.
e-town sucks and i avoid giving them any of my hard earned cash. i will stick to island and atco, both managed by people who are still passionate about racing.

I can't agree with that. I don't fault the Napps for running the place like a business. And the sole purpose of any business is making money. I don't know why they would generate so much invective here, but they have always treated me well. I know Joe Sway personally and I can tell you that he isn't running that track as a charity.

my point wasn't supposed to be if it was a business or not, just wether e-town was being run to meet the needs of their customer base, it isn't.
i know joe sway, he is a good guy and goes out of his way to make sure the racers have a good time. it doesn't always work, but he is there trying. the sways have sunk a ton of cash adn time into the improvements at atco over the last several years and it has all been to improve conditions for the racers and the spectators that come to watch.
plain and simple, the more cars you attract, teh more spectators. the members of e-town management that i have dealt with in the past have clearly lost site of that.

Well, I think we can go on and on about what one clan may or may not be doing, to no avail. It's clear that you have had some bad experience in the past and that's a shame. My experience has been quite the opposite, as one of their customers. However, I haven't tried to plan an event with them, so I won't pretend to understand the types of issues of which you speak. I can only say that I appreciate what they are trying to do, by trying to attract the broadest possible customer base and keep the property utilization high. Their Saturday programs for a lot of us "modern muscle" guys is hard to beat in this area. But, to each, his own.

If I was E-town I would just start buying up every house for sale around the track. The problem of people complaining about noise would just work itself out over time lol. Whose going to complain if no one is able to buy a house in that area. Better yet rent the houses out and put a clause in the lease....you are leasing this house knowing that there is a loud dragstrip nearby. If you complain about the noise you will forfiet(sp) all security deposits and be removed from residence lol. Ah yes.....I can dream can't I lol.

the houses near the track shouldn't really be a problem since THEY ARE IN A DIFFERENT FRIGGIN TOWNSHIP!!!! it is only the tracks willingness to bend over and take it that makes the cries of those idiots worth anything.

Tim, come on, how can you sit there and believe that, just because it's a different township, they can't make any mischief for the track? I think you are a much more sensible person than that. It's only been a couple of years since one (or was it two?) former Manalapan supervisor(s?) became an Assemblyman for Monmouth County (yes, I know, etown is in Middlesex) and proposed modifying your state's Noise Control Act to remove the exemption for Motorsports. This would not have only threatened etown, but Atco and Island as well. It was only after finding zero support in the Assembly (more through etown's lobbying efforts...I don't think that the petition campaign had much weight since the majority of signatures were not from NJ), the rebuff of the NJ DEP on extra-local legislation of noise control ordinances and the complete and total impeachment of the testimony of some Rutgers prof as a "noise control expert" (by etown's attorney) was the campaign modified to finding some "state-funded" noise abatement solutions. Recall that etown had been in court since 1981 appealing decibel limits set by the court, and had been forced to comply with orders issued from the bench in both '85 and, recently, '02.

How this represents a willingness to 'bend over and take it' is beyond me.
