what are your thoughts on this exhaust.
1 5/8 shorty headers to 2.5 pipes. to a single 3.5 exit dumped.
Will it be enough for my 400sbc? I know its not long tubes, but I'm willing to sacrifice the power for this price. I also think it will be a hell of a lot better then my 2.5 exhaust. A lot lighter too

i know someones going to say that shortys yield some power, and its true they do. But they don't compare to a set of LTs. I wouldn't even bother with shortys.

You'll end up spending more in the long run buying shorties just to upgrade to long tubes down the road. Save your money and buy the right parts the first time.

Im not buying shorties... I have shorties, and the y pipe. plans are cutting the pipe before it merges into one, having the pipes extended into a flowmaster y pip cut out, muffler dumped, done. Cost me $150 all said and done, and still a great increase over what I have now, and When I can afford to get a mini starter with the addition of coated hooker long tubes, I will have half the stuff all ready..
Now based on that.
Do you think it is a good $150 investment?

you just answered your own question..... Just save your time and money and wait a few more weeks and do it once the right way and forget it

Half priced solution = half assed solutions more often than not.
This would be a perfect example of that.
I know your engine isn't some massive fire breathing monster, but it does support enough air flow to deserve having the exhaust done right. 3.5 from the Y back isn't a bad idea, but get some inexpensive full lengths and a real 3-3.5 Y made for it.

how much hp are you putting out on the motor? i would say go single 3.5 exhaust but WITH a muffler, my car with dual 3's into a single 4 mufflex dyno'd identical numbers with and without my mufflex/flowmaster exhaust as it did open headers, BUT with open headers my hp levels peaked 1400 rpm LOWER then with the exhaust (5200 vs 6600 rpm).
