Speaker recommendation
I have an 86 IROC. I replaced the head unit with a Pioneer MP3 player last summer. I'm thinking about replacing the stock speakers to go with the HU. I thought I'd ask around here -- do you guys have any recommendations? I'm looking at "bolt-on" replacement. I don't want to do any custom fab work for the speakers. I drive with the T-tops off most of the time so I don't expect crystal-clear sound. Also, do you think I need to replace the wiring or do you think the original should be fine?

Well, which ones you wanna replace? Dash, Sail Panels, or both? At first I had 4x6's and 6x9 Pioneers, which bolted right up (the 6x9's pushed on the sail panels a little bit) and to tell you the truth, they kinda sucked. Full blast they were great but when the vol. was turned down, they sounded like they were popped, blown, and distorted. I have Polks 4x6's and 6x9's in now, and they sound great without an amp. Like the Pioneers, they bolt right in. FYI if you didnt know what sizes go where, 4x6's go in the dash and 6x9's go behind the sail panels. As for the wiring, i don't think its necessary to replace the entire wire from the H.U. back. Your gonna have to snip the ends off at the clips off the stock speakers to make aftermarket speakers fit. It all depends if you wanna amp the rears.
Thats just my recommendation and my 2 cents.
*EDIT* I have T-tops as well, and when they are off, they sound great !!!

I have heard some Polks that sound great, but personally I'm a fan of Boston Acoustic for relatively low priced, good quality speakers.

i have Polk audio 6x9's for sale, cheap! DX9 series, 200 watts max i think. Really decent, but my 96 doesnt require 6x9's, nor the truck, so they are just sittin here.
shoot me a email or IM

So Polk, Boston Acoustic, Infinita Kappa, and Pioneer seem to be the favorites -- thanks!
