you should be ok with a 275 on an 8" rim, and a 275/50/15 is about 26.1" in overall diameter, give or take a lil depending on tire brand.
i couldnt find any specs on a "275/60R14" like you say you currently have
edit... according to the basics of tire sizing.. a "275/60 R14" would have an overall diameter of 27.2" so the 50 series 15" would be a good idea over a 60 series 14". It'll give you .5" more clearence(not a whole inch(because remember, .5" on top of tire, .5" on bottom)
and like willdbilly commented... having a 275 on a 6" rim is BAD, thats about 2.5 inches of bulge on each side.
