LCA Spring Perch
I was watching Muscle Car TV the previous weekend and they were working on one of there project cars. I know the guy likes to do a lot of custom fabrication but what he did on this particular episode is took the stock front lower control arm for some 70's A-Body, cut out the spring perch and made it sit lower on the actual A-arm to give the car a lower stance in the front. Is this still something commonly practiced, easy to do, or safe?
I can't afford Coil-Overs so I'm looking for cheaper alternatives.

Why would you do this? Just to lower the car? The cheap way to do that is to cut coils.

Well the car on TV already had lowering springs but he wanted to lower it some more up front and thats something I would like to do. I already have lowering springs but the gap in the front kills me compared to the back. I know the front openings are larger then in the rear but the whole appearance aspect of lowering is to remove fender gap. Basically I want it raked some more.

adjust ride height with springs and the correct geometry will be intact. If you mess with the mounting points you could adversely affect the ride and possibly cause binding.

if you cut your lower a arms.....and f*** em up, you will end up paying more for the labor and then replacing the a-arms than you would have for some front coilovers

Not for $260 a pop!! I should just get a spare set of stock springs and cut them for sheets & giggles.
