Dedication to the greatest era of Rallying

Group B was the pinnacle of rallying in my eyes. In the beginning he talks about how they were 4 seconds slower then F1 cars around the same lenght of track the F1 cars were racing on. I found out later in that interview I watched that when Lancia got done testing, their fastest lap could of put them 6th on the starting grid for the F1 race there!!! unfortunatley in one race a Ford RS200 crashed into spectators in the way and killed 3 oft hem, adn later on in the year a Lancia crashed and burned so badly the only thing that remained was the chassis. Unfortunatley the driver and navigator perished. they announced Groub B was banned after that year, and so ended the greatest raly period in history. Ill post those vids up later, but for now, be shocked and awed by the awsomeness of Group B rally!!

the "killer b's" got outlawed because they were just too damn fast. it was basically outlaw racing. as long as you coudl squint and still see the silhouette of the production car it was "based" on it was legal.
the cars were too fast for the courses, roads, and safety equipment of the day. many argue that they wouldn't even be safe on a closed course with modern safety equipment. to give you an idea of what they were putting to the ground, the porsche effort used the same 1000+rwhp powerplant that was put in their IMSA prototype that carried jackie stewart to a championship.
they were crazy fast and killed many drivers, co-drivers, and even spectators.

well the drivers and co drivers I can see the manufacturers for making them that fast, but as for the crowd deaths, it was really poor track marshaling that unfortunatley laid way to specactor deaths. if you se in many ofthe photos, the crowd runs back off the road mere seconds before the car swould somce thru, infact around I think 1:18, after a car goes by, if you look at the far left ofthe screen , youll see a guy so close he looses his camera. Today really is no better, they have red tape they wrap around trees....yeah that'll stop a car from hitting them. The only driver and Co driver I can date that were killed was the Lancia team atteh corsica Rally. and the only spectators I knwo that were killed were the 3 when the RS200 plowedinto them. now why didthe RS crash into them, well the driver tried to miss a guy photographing in the road and he lost control and hitthe crowd. But yes tey were too fast. I mean when you have the ability to take a hatchback ,and get a fast enough time to qualify it 6th in a F1 race, yeah its time to cool down. but still, man what I would do to see that area of Rallying. The Lancia 037's, and S4's, the Audi S1's, the Renualt and Peugeots too.
