"collector vehicles"
I'm thinking about trying to get my SS reg. as collector vehicle, has anyone did this post 9-1-07? Also is NJFBOA "a recognized car club" or would I have to call GM or SLP, because you need to have evidence that your car was a limited edition.

i dont think SS's are collectors cars. a collector car is more like a new gt500 or zr1 vette.

they might be, they are limited production individually numbered cars.

I have collector status on my 35th anniversary camaro, there is also a mileage limit of 3k miles a year and you have to show the insurance policy that its on a limited mileage coverage also. But I was never asked to produce the cover sheet of my insurance policy.

I have collector status on my 67 (not RS or SS). I think the criteria is a car over 20 yrs. old and can not be driven more than 3,000 K per year. I did have to show that my insurance matched the 3,000 K per year.
Inspection was as easy as having the state inspector looking at my odometer. He didn't check the lights, horn, or even turn it on for that mater.

How long ago did you do this, i heard that they changed things in the last year. The dmv web site said that you need a letter from a car club or the manufacturer saying that the vehicle is a limted or special edition vehicle. I went to the dmv to get the app. for collector vehicle status and it say nothing about getting a letter on it.

I heard that also that the car has to be a limited production unit,ie pace car, anniversary car, special numberd production car from the factory,so on.Maybe being SS camaros are numberd from SLP that might qualify them but im not sure.As far as a club verifying that your car is a limited production vehicle i would guess maybe this site can help because it is a club, also if you join the ACA, American camaro association http://www.americancamaro.org/index.php they might do that.

make a copy of the birth cert and on the copy CIRCLE the SS NUMBER!! and send that in with a club letter. That might do the trick being the car is numbered!!Good luck!

It used to be that the DMV would allow pretty much any car to be registered as a collector, as long as you had another car registered in your name.
Beginning September 1, 2007, they changed the rules so that only limited production "collector" cars can be registered under collector status. Anyone who had their vehicle registered under collector status prior to that date is automatically grandfathered in, as long as they continue to renew the collectors registration each year.
I have been trying to get information from the DMV all year about what constitutes a legitimate car club in their eyes, and what would need to be included in the letter in a letter from a car club, but I haven't gotten any real answers.
Several people have asked me about getting a letter from us, but I can't provide anything until I know what it is that we need to provide.

give it a shot, when I talked to the guy at the dmv he said it not to send money with the application, so its worth a shot. He also said they'll send a letter to tell you if your approved and thats when you pay, also if you get denied the reason why. He kept saying about production #'s so if you got a limited color give it a try.

I did a google search of camaro clubs and it had a list by state NJFBOA was on it. When I stoped by the DMV today they gave me this # (609)341-5769 or (609)292-5460 the lady at the DMV said that they are the ones you call about this stuff, maybe they can tell you what you need to know

i called pontiac. still waiting on a letter. all this club has to do is follow what the dmv says and send a letter in. whats the worst that could happen...they say no? its been a year already since the new regulations came to place.
someone at ls1tech called chevy for his SS. it took several months of phone tag, but he got something back. all they did was send a letter stating the production number breakdown for his year/make, and his VIN number. THATS IT, and he got the collectors reg. no problem.
