Dodge Viper ACR Sets 'Ring Record of 7:22.1

The 2009 Dodge Viper ACR has claimed the fastest time ever for a production car around the Nürburgring. The lap of 7:22 is just a few ticks quicker than the 7:26.4 lap set by the 2009 Corvette ZR1. The ACR is the most brutal version of the already-unforgiving Viper.

Watch the video... guy keeps on hitting the rev limiter?!?!?! Maybe it could go quicker???

Video:

I love the viper.... but the acr is a bit much

The ACR is a very nice car, and its about time Dodge fixed the handling problems the older Vipers had. I dont know how many they'll sell though, especially after announcing they might be selling it off. Real crappy timing there Dodge

That thing may perform well but it looks like something out of a video game.

the reason they keep hitting the rev limiter before turns is because its quicker to do that than to shift, just to downshift again for the turn thats 50 feet ahead

edit: i just watched more of it....idk why he didnt hit 5th on the long straight

Yeah, the Pilot Cups are the tirs you get with the ACR.

Let the talk begin...what would a ZR1 with Cups or other R compound tires do...

DING! Also, that ACR car is pretty much a road race built car...the ZR1 isn't. It's still a beast though.

That, andt he 747 wing hangin off the back...shesh.

Id say tthat the ZR1 and Viper ACR are about even overall. ZR1 will be much more comfortable to drive in. Anyone who has ever sat in a new Viper, you know about the spacious interior, not to mention the oven-esque interior.

Whats the retail on one of thoes?

I think the ACR will actually be cheaper than the ZR-1. No matter what the MSRP is for the ZR-1, it'll be selling at double that for some time. Hell, the GT500 has been out for three years and dealerships are still asking 20k over sticker for them.

But you're right, the ZR-1 will be more comfortable, and I for one cannot stand the way the V-10 sounds. It sounds like a vacuum with down syndrome.

ACR comes with a radio.

You can buy the "hard core package" - deletes the audio system, underhood silencer pad, trunk carpet and tire inflator. The radio is replaced by a lightweight cover that can be configured to mount the included lap timer. The door speakers are replaced by lightweight carbonfiber panels. The Hard Core package offers a 40 lb. weight savings and provides ultimate street legal race-ready performance.

Weight of ACR - 3408 lbs
Weight of ACR with hard core package - 3366 lbs

MSRP $97,595

Ultimately.... it beat the ZR1's times.... for now. It is inevitable that both manufacturers will take both cars back and run them and get better times.... but it is possible for a different manufacturer to beat a GM product

These are both street legal cars.... and production cars.

I'd like to see a race driver that regularly drives the C6-R and one that drives the Viper race car and have them duke it out at the Ring. That would be a lot of fun to watch

this car is nasty man. too bad it took this long for it to evolve to what it is now. ZR1 or ACR either way its a win. Both cars will blow just about any other car within 200,000 grand out the door. with pushrods
