Vegas, what to do?
Last time I made a thread like this it was pretty successful and I've gotten some useful advice. So this time I'm going to Vegas, and I wanted to know opinions of people who have been there already; what did you think was a must do?
Skip the Casinos, clubs, booze and sex. Those are already on the scheduled events.
So far things that we want to do include:
Trip to the Hoover Dam.
Zumanity by Cirque du Soleil.
Roller Coaster on top of one of the hotels (I think it's stratosphere, but I'm not sure).
What else would you recommend?

Will you two stop acting like 3rd graders please? (mike&doug)
We just got back. Hoover Dam is cool to see. Maybe trek out to the Grand Canyon too. Lots of stupid tourist stuff to do. See the dancing waters in front of the Bellagio, the pirate show in front of Treasure Island. They run ever half hour or something.
We saw a number of good shows. Le Rev (IIRC) at the Wynn - kind of Cirque du Soleil in/over water. Blue Man Group at the Venetian and Penn&Teller at Rio - but I like stupid stuff like that. Also saw Phantom of the Opera at the Venetian. Very good if you like that kind of thing. Look for places around the strip called “Half Price Tickets” – you can get tickets for shows that day, maybe the next day, cheaper than box office, but you have to stand in line.
We ate real well - $150+ dinners not out of the norm. There is a steakhouse called Joes, it is at Caesar’s. Really good, on par with anything in NYC. At the Ventian there are 2, an Asian restaurant called Tao that is really good. And a Mexican place that was good too. Both places we ran up $100+ bills for two of us. We don’t gamble so we spent $$ on food! Also, the Irish Pub in NY NY is pretty good too, we had a great lunch there.
I’m sure you can eat & drink cheap there, we just chose not to.
If I think of anything else I’ll report back.

^^^What he said. Just walk the strip. I spent a day walking the strip and it took me all day to walk it because I would just get sidetracked and see something interesting.

And it's a lot of walking. You don't even realize it until you sit down. lOL

Fremont street experience, it's a night time thing.
Red Rock Canyon is a short drive away.
New York New York has a roller coaster, not a big one but it has one.

Teh absolute Vegas to do list:
1. Helicopter tour of grand canyon. I suggest kokapelli(sp?) and take the last daytime flight. It will get you out at the day rate and back at the perfect time to see the strip all lit up from the air.
2. Blue Man Group, always a good show
3. even if you just window shop the stores in the casinos it is cool. prolly the most expensive "mall" you will ever walk through
4. the night shows in front of the casinos of course. This will likely take you more than one night to see all of them
5. ride the roller coaster on top of New York, NY
6. Hoover Dam is boring, save your money and time and just watch a discovery special
7. rent an exotic convertible to cruise around in. yer in Vegas, play like a pimp
8. freemont street music shows at night are so damn cool, definitely a do not miss
From my trips to Vegas I estimate you could spend a week there, do different stuff all day and night the whole time and never get around to gambling. It is a great town and a great time. The only limit is your budget.
BTW, see how many of the hooker trading cards you can collect. There will be guys standing on the street corners handing them out. It is pretty damn funny/sad(matter of perspective). They also have hooker catalogs if trading cards aren't your style. lol

Yea I forgot about those. I'm pretty sure we will be seeing them, but they don't take that long.

Thanks, I'll be on the look out for one of those.

DO i have to be 25 in Vegas to rent a car? I remember that was a problem for me once. I'm 23..
As far as the heli tours go, we'll see. It depends on the price I guess. I would rather spend 300 - 400 bucks on something more fun. I've done a lot of flying
Thanks for the suggestions, this is progressing nicely. Well besides the newb.

I diagree with tim on hoover dam. But I'm fascinated by all the engineering and such. Plus the ride out & scenery is just great. We took a bus trip deal and the guide was entertaining.

Yea I like big engineering projects too, that's why I wanna go there and see it with my own eyes. I've seen it on TV, just like Vegas, but I still wanna see it in real life.

There are plenty of tours to, so no need to drive/rent a car.

Go to Red Rock National Park. About 40 minutes ouside of Vegas. Red Rock Casino is also really nice if you wanted to make a day of it.

I took the hard hat tour in 2000. That was interesting. I don't think they offer that anymore, after 9/11.
