Lesson learned the hard way...

Been told this a hundred times and have told people it myself....never cut anything towards you! Working late last night I made a poor decision when cutting something with a razorblade and sliced my hand. Was in the ER until 2am getting it stitched up. I even told myself when I was doing it that I should find a better way to cut it.

Let my momentary lapse of judgement serve as a reminder to everyone else....always cut away from you!

sucks, how many stitches? i never seem to learn but never had to get stitched up. i am the worse with a cut-off wheel, never wear safety glasses. its really dumb. my dad went to the eye doctor and they found metal in there that was years old. learn through example

Only 3.....enough to be annoying and limit the work I can do this weekend. I need to paint a set of bumpers tonight but try not to get any solvents in it when I'm cleaning the gun out.

Yeah I've gotten thinner in small cuts before and it sucks....I'll just have to use my other hand to wipe out the inside of the gun tonight.

Best part was the doctor asked how it happend and I said I cut myself with a razor and she looked at my very concerned....so I followed up my statement with "Yeah, I'm a cutter" hahaha....she didn't appreciate it.

Yeah, just use a sterile double edge razor and cut those suckers clean off. OPPS there I go again and I even was cutting away from me. Damm, now how did that artery get in the way. Holy CRAP that's a lot of blood. Hell in a couple of months it will heal although the nerves may not let me feel any PAIN, so that I can use that double edge razor and cut TOWARDS me and not feel any anything. Every cloud has a SILVER lining! LOL

That sucks man, I have been there. I years ago was trying to cut a Y pipe off a exhaust with a sawzall with the trigger locked laying down with the car on stands, it broke threw and landed on my arm and lets just say I am happy to still have two arms (even though I do have a scar half way around it now though).

Hope you're hand heal fast and without consequences.
I had six stitches in my left palm. I used clippers to cut the stitches and then you just pull them out. (clippers was cleaned with vodka before)

as long as the cut is completely closed and the cutting implement is sterilized, there is no problem with that. i've done it many, many times. i've even been closed up with super glue and steri-strips - then all you have to do is wait for the steri-strips to fall off. staples are the worst, though. and there is no way to remove them yourself without creating more of a problem.

just be careful in the future.

If it was at work(you said you were working late, just not sure what exactly you meant), let someone else take the stitches out. It will be legit, workers comp will cover it, and if anything goes wrong down the road or anything of the sort they can't blame you for not following procedure and such. I almost made a big mistake by thinking of taking my stitches out myself when i got my hand caught in a lathe at work. Now that I might need physical therapy, they wont find any excuses not to pay for it.
