No traction
I'm having trouble getting traction in my car while on the street(dry). I have sumitomo 315's on my rears which are still fairly new, and I got them thinking I could get better traction with them. WRONG. I cant get any traction in 2nd gear when I punch it or give it 3/4 throttle. Should I get a different set of tires or burn these ones up a little bit to wear them in?

You won't really see a difference in street tires as the tread wears. Sumitomo's are cheap tires - you get what you pay for....

You probably won't get traction this time of the year with the cold temps and the salt/sand on the roads. Tire brand might not make much of a difference. My 275's break loose all the time with this cold weather and I'm talking less than 1/2 throttle.

if the tires are cold you'll spin all day, if you drive easy until they warm up you should be fine.

You'll never hook on a sumitomo. You'd like to think a 315 would work better then a 275? Wrong...

I had 315 sumitomos that came with the rims when I got them. They are complete crap regardless of temperature. Do NOT smoke them, traction doesnt get any better and they will be worse in wet conditions. I switched to ET streets.
Like already said, a true street tire is going to spin. ET streets or nitto 555 give decent traction on the street, but they come with some sacrifice. Faster wear, dangerous in wet conditions, useless in icy, and they tend to walk around in dry normal driving.

what kinda power you putting down?
and when you say hook on the street do you mean like you find yourself driving normaly and spinning or like launching and spinning(racing)
i had 275 nitto 555rs on my car, didnt hook at all on the street(both pavement nd concrete) then went to a set of 295 et streets, and i hooked on crete very well and decent on pavent. juss throw some VHT down nd heat em up!

I've only got bmr adjustable control arms w/ relocation brackets. As for the power..no idea haven't gotten it dynoed yet. I got the 315's because my friend had them on his 99 GT and he never had an issue with them. When I mean hook, i mean driving and just trying to use some of the cars power(not racing on the street). So besides a nitto what tires would you suggest.

ET streets! The nitto 315's run a little small
