6.0 Swap
So i finally broke down and am swaping my 3.8 out for a 6.0. Its a 4l60E car with an electronic throttle body. Had a few questions about the swap, was hopeing i could get some answers from someone with more knowledge about this than me.
1)What bell housing would i have to use with the new motor? Can i just use the housing from a LS1 or would i have to find one from a 6.0 truck?
2)Can u use a computer and harness from an 5.7 or do i have to find one from a 6.0 truck?
3)If i can use one from a 5.7, can i use one from a C5 vette and stay with an electronic throttle, or will i have to switch out and use a cable throttle?

what year is your car?
1.Stick or automatic?
2. you can use any fbody harness from 99-02
3.yes you can use a vette harness but your gonna play alot of connect the dots for thegauge cluster & other controls supplied by ecm/harness
I personally would just run a fbody harness, alot easier.

devil's advocate: isn't it easier and probably cheaper to sell it & buy a V8 car?

Is the only thing going to be swaping out the Vette connectors for the gauges for the F-body connectors? If so then Justin thats no big deal. I can help you with that. I built cable harnesses in the Navy for jets for 6 yrs.. I pretty good at splicing or swaping connectors. My question is how would the vette PCM react to the F-body drivetrain and sensors or lack of sensors? Would that be able to be tuned out? The vette has a Independant rear end, Stability control, and all the other sensors and what not. Would it just be easier to do a TB with a wire from a LS1 F-body?

The only reason i'm keeping the car is that the body is in good shape and has alot of personal value to me since it was the first car i bought without any help. But i'm trying to work out all these problems before i start tearing the car appart.

v6 trans wont bolt up, youd need a full ls1 trans, that will bolt up fine to the 6.0, or even the 5.3. i THINK the newer autos can swap bellhousings too but even so, youd want a v8 trans.
as for the harness, the vette engine harness shouldnt have many "extra" connectors. all the stability control stuff should be on the body harness, not the engine harness, and i dont know how an independent rear end would matter any to engine harness.
Id only stick with an fbody harness so that all the connectors will be in the proper location with the proper length leads.
as for the TB, id say youd just be better off going to a cable setup, just easier IMO.

I wasnt saying it would matter with the harness but with the vette PCM. If those sensors or what ever are not pluged in then how would that effect the PCM and its operation? He asked which would be better a PCM and Harness from a F-body or a PCM and Harness from a vette..

Wrong...... V6 4l60e will work.Bellhousings are interchangeabe. You need a Fbody Ls1 bellhousing.
The way to make it work is to install:
1.Ls1 bellhousing
2.find a converter with Ls1 bolt pattern for flywheel if different for a 298mm shaft (Ls1 trans have 300mm shafts)
Make your life simple:
Buy:
6.0l engine pan to intake w/t.b.
Ls1 oil pan
99+ fbody ecm w/harness
throttle cable
V8 kmember
and many misc. items, (y pipe,motor mounts,etc...)
Let me know what your plans are.... I have many of these parts to help your swap move along.

yeah just swap out a the fly by wire throttle body for a cable operated one. the rest of the stuff you can find through ls1 cars and stuff...no need to make it harder on yourself.
