4th gen window issue
hey guys figured i would post up real quick before i rip into the car on vacation.
02 ws6 trans am vert. driver window issue. when your putting the window up it stops when its about 2 inches from being up all the way. if you let it sit for a min or two and try again it goes up the rest of the way.
any ideas on what this could be? im going to pull the switch plate to make sure the connection is secured. but other than it just stopping at that point it works fine. motor isnt slow or sluggish like they get when they want to die out.

My assumption is the window motor is failing causing excess heat in the circuit breaker. So the circuit breaker is overheating shuting down the circuit till it cools. My last camaro used to do that with my seats so I would imagine its the sake scenario.
My passenger window does the same exact thing just haven't looked at It yet

I agree its the window motor. Same thing happened in my 2000 TA. The pia is that the pop rivets holding the regulator are 3/8" I think. They're bigger then pop rivets and gun in most stores. So you need to by the larger pop rivert gun and rivets. Dont buy rivets to short or they crunch up the inner door - its made out of fibreglas or some such - then makes the hole even bigger. . At least in my case I couldnt use bolts because no clearance for putting on the nut and there are clearance issues. Just my experience. Did others have any issues or was I doing things wrong? I replaced both motors and wouldnt want to do it again.

The window regulator in my 2000 TA was riveted to the inner door structure.

Yes it's riveted. I drilled mine out and just used stainless hardware rather than goin with rivets.

The regulator is riveted to the door in 4 places. The motor is bolted to the regulator. Look up a how-to if its your first time. I pray for your tints.

Doh - wish I knew about the http://shbox.com/page/windowmotor18.html before I replaced the motors by removing the regulator. He replaced the motor only and not taking out the regulator. He explains about grinding with a dremel to get access to the motor rivets which is not apparent just looking at the door panel. This simplifies the replacement since you dont have to pin the spring in the regulator and worry about removing the window track. Very nice writeup and he deserves a few bucks if you follow his procedure.

Thanks for that. I was going to see if there was anyway to not take out the regulator. But that works just as well.
