stupid question...again
Ive been reading up on people that have had problems descreening the maf, along with port and polish. i honestly dont know y people have so many problems. when my dad bought the car back in 98, that was the first thing we did to it, along with all the other "free mods". I have never had a problem with bad gas mileage or rough idle or anything. i still get 15.5 city and 24 highway, which is what the car was advertised to get of the showroom floor.
so can someone explain to me y people have had problems with this mod? am i just not getting something thats right there in my face?
and again sry if this is a stupid question

It can make the tuner have a rough time with calibrating MAF tables, but, like you I ran a ported end pieces, no screened MAF the entire life of the car. Never had a MAF issue or related to it issue.
:shrugs:

im guessing it has something to do with the person doing the mod. not being careful and possibly breaking something. also maybe the cai and not cleaning the filter getting particles up in there. but there again, b4 i bought the car from my dad last yr, he didnt clean the filter for 8yrs. idk maybe luck

The MAF screen is only catching small twigs etc, if thats your filter, well you have many other problems
The screen will help straighten out the turblent air coming in after the CAI to an extent which will again, make getting correct MAF tables set up easier.

That screen is way too coarse to do any worthwhile filtering when you compare it to an air filter. If it is catching twigs you have other problems.

yea i got that part and i am running a air filter. i was speaking more about possible particles of the airfilter (like with a k&n) with the oil on it contaminating it.
i am not having a prob, just wondering y so many others are. but then again they are prob part swappers and not mechanics.

I think it's probably a mix of turbulence, cleanliness, and overall milage on the MAF that gives people trouble.

Agree with the above - I descreened my MAF in 2000 and haven't had a single MAF issue. I'm actually still using the SAME descreened MAF on my current combo. Whether or not it helps/hurts who knows.
