bubbling sail panel roof question

My sail panel has been bubbling since i bought the car.

Few questions....

Are the bubbles in the clear only ?

Those that have repainted with clear did they come back?
Anyone paint and not put clear and not have them come back?

My thoughts where to have it sanded down and refinished. Have it painted then have the matter black wrap done. Also planning on doing the berger and manta matte black.

From what I see, sail panels could be a bitch to touch up. Personally, wheither doing matt, or gloss, or pink polka dots, you're better off vinyl wrapping the hoop. it's cheaper, and takes alot less time to prep and do. Don't like the color? Rip it off and do it again. color fading after 3-5 years? Re-read the sentence before.

I'm going to be doing my wifes roof on her mini since there's a couple scratches that are irritating me...nothing bare metal, just looks like the the previous owner used a car wash broom after someone decided to wash down their truck after mudding. but since my father's company has a huge as hell printer to do anything custom, I'm having somethign printed on it as well.

Vinyl wrap has come along way, and with a boat load of colors and endless designs, you'll find it's easier then repainting.

I am planning on it being wrapped but I was going to get the bubbles sanded down just wasn't sure what type of finish I would need. If it needed to be a painted, cleared, primed surface or if just smooth is all that is needed.

I guess I can talk to my dealers guy who does all the vinyl work.

Thanks for the input. Just got to figure out the pre-wrap phase.

Smooth, the vinyl will transfer any bumps, but doesn't necessarily need the clear coat. Sand the excess clear coat form the bubbles. spot glaze and sand until even, and smooth the panel with 600-800 or finer material. once that's done you shouldn't see any peaks.

Mid 98 gm started using a different glue to hold on the roof and sail panel. Sooner or later, it bubbles through and shows up in your paint. Sanding the paint isn't going to fix the problem unfortunately.

I know the cause is from the glue but the bubbles appear to only be in the clear. I can pick the bubbles of with my finger nail and no paint comes off

Looks like they are buying them from 6le. Thanks for the heads up

That is way more then I want to put in honestly. Between the price, shipping, painting and the time to install it. Rather just have it brought down and wrap it probably no more then 150$

My brothers Ws6 had that problem, sanded bubbles out, repainted, & they came back. Then sanded it down completely, new primer, new base coat & clear coat, year later they back again. Its something in the material, glue, etc.. as Sweetbmxrider posted previously.
I would just sand bubbles out & spot glaze than wrap it. this way not too much $ invested if it comes back.

Seems like the best way until I can redo it properly. Trying to find cars getting parted out and cut the whole roof and try to seperate it using heat from the underside

I have been trying to find a sail panel roof to cut out. Gotta wait for a part out again

Wasn't sure if you just painted yours but now I see you replaced it.

I've heard of people getting them out and I've cut a lot of windshields out so as long as I can get it nice and tacky it shouldn't be to bad.

Just getting of one is hard.

I let one slip away on a friends parts car, just forgot about it. Kept telling me whatever I need take it.

Second one they tried removing.

Next one I'm gonna see if I can get the roof cut off like creeper and attempt my self.
