Couple racing questions
With Island maybe opening again and reading all of these badass turbo builds, I got the bug to go fast. I figured I'd get some opinions on what would be the best bang for the buck. I'm limited with budget to get only one at a time.
1: Drag Radials
2: New posi and 3.73's (3.23's now)
3:Converter
Those who dont know: I have a LT Juan trans am with ram air and SLP catback. Ran 13.65 at One hundo MPH's. Posi wore out last year so Im lenaing towards Option 2 since I aint doin no drag racing with one wheel peel. Figured it would be the time to upgrade to 3.73's while the posi is being done.
What do you guys think?

Fix the rear. May as well do gears while you are there.

Fixing whatever is broken should be your first priority. You might see .1 off from 3.73 gears but don't expect much change. A converter would drop the most time off

I'm currently looking into a converter myself, but at $800+shipping+misc, it adds up pretty fast.
How much racing are you planning on doing?

Get an Edge or Revmax if you know you will never go past bolt ons. Round 450 for one of them.
As stated, fix the rear (which you really can't with a 10 bolt), toss a converter in, and get some MT ET street radials. Also, a trans shift kit may not hurt either.
3000-3400 range on the converter, depending again on how far past bolt ons you wanna go. You will need/want at least a mail order tune for the gears and shift points, potentially fixing a stall wall issue as well.

A good converter lands you close to the same et/$ as nitrous with much less risk IMO.
converter ~$850 shipped
shift kit ~$100
trans cooler, lines, fittings ~$150
8 qts trans fluid ~$50
Total ~$1150 done right with new parts. I think you could drop .7 off your current times with a decent 3400 stall.

I agree with fixing the rear first. After that I would put Drag Radials on it before the converter. Make sure you get it hooking and everything working right first. The right converter will definitely cut down on your e.t. but make sure you have everything else right first. I know they aren't cheap but if you get a custom one based on your application it will work much better. I used Ultimate Converter Concepts but they are pricey, a lot of racers tell me ATI is good and reasonable but I have never used them. Good luck with your car!

Thing to think is are tou going to do any motor mods in the future. Like full bolt on, heads/cam etc. Becuse when you put a baby stall in it and then you do any mods ur most likely gonna have to change ur converter to have a bigger stall
