Ive never had the stage one, but I had a spec stage 3 in my SS. It was junk compared to my Textrailia or the LS7 now in my CTS-V. After maybe 10k miles it would slip a lot at higher rpms and then drop the clutch pedal due to the pressure plate being odd(stock LS1 engine). It seems at least with the stage 3's they were very hit or miss with what people thought about them. And btw, it wasn't my hydraulics in the SS, When I pulled the spec it looked like garbage and I only raced it 2 times at the track. The textralia I put in with a more powerful engine and same stock hydraulics, no drill mod or anything and it held awesome and had a stock feel.

I had a stage 2 i trashed in my stock lt1... but I don't think it helped that I drove it like I stole it. I have a stage 1 in my car now with a brand new flywheel and new everything. It grips pretty good. Wish more people made LT1 clutches

Many of said LT1 clutches are the same pressure plate anyway...

I read that earlier Bill. I currently have a Zoom clutch, I think the basic MU series which I had no issues with. The disc even has a good amount of meat left on it. I was just concerned it won't hold with the new engine/setup and would rather not slap it all back together to find it slips. You think I should just find a new disc and resuse the pressure plate? My concern was that the holding pressure would vary with pressure plates, so I assumed if a stage 1 can hold 505 ft/lbs, it's a combination of the material of the disc plus pressure plate. I also don't really want to spend $500 either

Came across a big thread on camaroZ28 regarding this. Seems the pressure plates are all LT4 specification, only difference being different companies powdercoat them. Looks like I'll be buying a disc only, now to choose...

Yup.

I had heard the LT4 PP and McLeod disc was a good combo.

In all reality, if you are at the 500+ hp/tq area with the pull style clutch you should be looking into twin discs. (There are other factors such as vehicle weight and gear ratio that contribute as well but this is just a generic statement for sake of conversation) I know the twins are a big jump in price from the singles but we have seen the singles start to become inconsistant anywhere in that zone no matter where the manufacturer rates them. There is only one pressure plate available for the pull style set up (even the twin discs) and while some modifications can be made to make it have a little more static pressure, they are minimal. The twins we get from McLeod work great, feel like stock, and hold up to 1200 hp.
