Project "Nighmare" 1991 Trans Am Convertible

Alright guys and gals. It has occurred to me that I have not started any sort of thread on my car. So I think it is about time that I take a little tie to do so. I have pics of some stuff not everything and a couple of videos of the car running. I will eventually get a good cold start video with some warm up time. Now to go over the stats

1991 T/A Vert
355 TPI
Unknown custom grind cam
T-5 trans which will blow up eventually
Vortec heads, Studded with girdles
Comp Cams 1.7 ratio Roller rockers
36 LB red top injectors
Edelbrock Shorty headers and y-pipe
4 Inch Mufflex exhaust with a Flowmaster 30 Series race muffler (new edition today was straight pipe before and was WAY too loud)
Subframe connectors
Boxed rear LCA's
Adj. Torque arm
Spohn trans crossmember
Spohn Front sway bar with energy suspension end links, stock rear sway bar with enerhy suspension links
KYB shocks and Struts
Adj. Upper Strut mounts
Adj. Front LCA's

That's all I can think of right now. I do need to get a Wander bar, Panhard rod, and a rear sway bar to match the front

Car needs paint, a new top, and a tune pretty bad. the tune will most likely come first then a new black top to replace the tan and then eventually a black interior swap. That's right when it's done it will be triple black.

I know you guys want pics but first I want to thank Dave for the work he did and his help on the car and letting it be at his shop to get it done and then trailering it back home to me....with that said on with the pics.

new used trans going in. original one was toast

new hard brake line going in

and crappy cell phone pics from a maiden cruise today

this is before I put the muffler on. My neighbor complained about it at 4 in the afternoon so I knew I had to do something to keep him quiet

And after I put the flowmaster 30 series on. both videos are hot idle

feedback and comments welcome

I still can't believe you got rid of the red one. I guess you like working on the more than driving them, lol

No its a unknown custom grind cam. Was bought second hand and don't remember the exact specs. It is a FI cam though so its not overly aggressive. I would say little bit more aggressive than a LT4 hot cam

didn't get anything done this weekend thanks to mother nature but I did get some parts in. I got new black chevy valve covers, new gears for my headight motors, new front side markers, and a pretty shift knob...hopefully I can celebrate my birthday this weekend by getting some parts installed lol

Your gears actually went bad? Every thirdgen I did it was just the nylon pucks turning to dust.

Idk I haven't pulled them apart yet but I am upgrading the gears while I'm in there. I have actually seem the gears strip so that's why I'm doing it all at once.

Yes but I am rethinking it. The problem I have with this car is its not something I can take to work with me a couple days a week or whatever. I have an hour commute to work. So I tossed it up there to see but I doubt I'll get any serious offers because of the way the car looks. This car was an impulse buy for me because its fun to drive and sounds great and all but its not the kinda driver I'd like to have. Its a good weekend car

Haven't done much lately. New black wrinkle valve covers are on, currently R&Ring the headlight motors. Got my fog lights working. Cleaned up some wiring. Next up is getting the solenoids for the roof lid working right so I can put the interior back together 100%. Also need to change out my plug wires as they made some unfortunate contact with the headers. After all that is done hopefully I can get a tune session over at EFX sooner rather than later

Well I've been driving her on the weekends and noticed the front suspension was super floaty feeling. It has new struts in it and if you push down on the suspension with the car on the ground there is no give whatsoever. So I sourced another good strut from someone to test it out and swapped the strut out and the same thing. Front suspension is as hard as a rock. I have no clue what springs are in there so I guess I'm gonna have to swap the springs out and see if that does anything.

Also last Saturday I got new plug wires cap and rotor in and it is running much better. So now I just need to get my clutch hydro issue fixed which I'm waiting on parts for that and get the springs in which I'm also waiting for and we will go from there. Hopefully get everything fixed asap and get a tune session in very soon and that is my main priority moving forward at this time.

Here's a under hood shot. This is before the wires but after the valve covers
