steering wheels control bulbs

I'd like to replace my bulbs as mine have been out since i bought the car. Its a 96 Firebird. How do I get to the bulbs and what is the part number? I think I remember someone saying they need to be soldered in. Do the caps just pop off?

The bulbs i use for interior stuff like that, were 12v flashlight bulbs in a drawer in radio shack. I have some somewere so i can get the item # when i find it.

And yes, they are soldered on.

You need to pop out the entire button assembly, not just the cover. You can then separate the front and back half to access the bulbs.

I have two questions. Do I need to remove the air bag to get slack on the wires? Also does anyone know a part number for the bulbs? Thanks for the info so far

I don't recall taking the airbag off. I matched up the bulb to one in the radio shack bin. They are pretty damn small.

Good luck on finding a Radio Shack, period! A lot of them folded up.

These may work although Deadtrend needs to confirm:
