A while back, I found out on the GTO forums that the gauge cluster had been "hacked" and could easily be modded. Mods included changing the start-up logos, adding custom text upon shutdown, activating the factory shiftlight, changing shift rpms, disabling the DRLs, re-calibrating the speedo, and some other stuff.
Since I've decided to do a Holden conversion with my GTO, the cluster was one of the items that needed to be addressed. I'll be purchasing a custom cluster face with the "GTO" logo replaced by the proper "monaro" script. However, it would still say "pontiac" at start up without this cluster mod.
The software for the cluster is available on most if not all GTO forums and you can purchase the necessary cable for about $65, or you can build you own cable for less than $15. I made my own and the cost was $11.51. Then I just had to download the drivers for the chip in the usb plug, and run the program. Actually making the changes to the cluster only took a minute or two. I changed my startup logo, adjusted my speedo(2004's have a 3% error), turned off my DRLs completely, and dimmed the "mph" on the speedo. Once I change the clutch, I'm going to play around with the factory shift light.
Here's the before picture, the cable I made, and the final product...
This will be the new cluster face, in Pearl Blue, with "Monaro" like on the black gauges below.
