Long term effects... um it made me get up off my lazy ass and lift whenever I took it. Granted towards the end I would bet it was more of a mental thing but for what its worth, I liked it. I just enjoy lifting so it helped me get focused and what not. As for building muscle, I can't tell personally, I mean lift more but whether I look like I can IDK. Again, not really why I lift.

Ok, another question for the guys that lift.

When you bench, is it bad to hold it up top for a few seconds?

I try to make sure I have good form so I steady myself every rep. My dad was making fun of me for doing it, I guess its like resting?

nah..the bad is at the bottom, if u let it hit your chest u lose tension and the lactic acid build up in the rep is lost.

i recently got into speed benching and saw my strength go up, go up and down as fast as u can for sets of 6 or 7, not going to failure. it might not be as much as u can bench but its more for functional strength

Yea, I don't max out or anything so I may try that. Again, kinda dangerous with no spotter though....

But as long as I am good to rest-ish up top, then cool.

the correct way to do it is come down slow and without letting it hit your chest or bounce push it back up fast. your building more burst strength that way. stopping at the top to adjust is no biggie though just not too long

Eh, I used to be a big runner, and then school with running to classes, squaring corners etc kinda killed it.

I need to start swimming again. That and get some moar nitric oxide.

This is the right answer. If you really want to build your bench, work out with chains for progressive resistance.

Just started working out again myself.
When I was 15-18 I worked out HARD and played alot of sports. I maxed out around 265 squated a retarted amount leg pressed 8 45 plates on each side of the machine ran a mile in 536 and curled 35s

Now after 4 weeks of on and off working out im at bench-210 curls 50 (10 times each arm i dont know how I do that either) (new gym leg press is machine weight not free so it maxes at 400 and i max it out doing 20 reps) havnt started squating again yet tho run a mile in 620
